Set timescale in Survival Mode

Have anyone had any experience with adjusting the ratio for Survival Mode? I was thinking of lowering it from 20 to 15 (12h ingame = 48min). It probably would have helped, if I switched to survival after changing the scale in a new game.

What I wanted was a bit more immersive time flow while not lowering the difficulty too much. I'm already using Survival Tweaks by PeterTheLemon, which make needs timing more realistic.

Survival Beta Menu Save Enable - Timescale won't reset once you save the changes.

To my knowledge (and this is based on previous titles), no Bethesda game has ever reacted to Timescale changes particularly gracefully. It can screw up some quests, some engine stuff might be affected in subtle ways like fade-in and effect scripts, and is generally reset to vanilla every game start unless acted upon on game load... This might require a mod.

^ Might work as a stop gap. Open console, type "set timescale to {whatever you want}" and close console. Test it out, it might stick and you can switch off the mod to prevent yourself being too tempted to ~killall

Edit: Or not, just really looked hard at that mod and it says it's for the Survival Beta... does 1.5 even block the console?

I'm using MikeTMs Survival Rebalance for enabling console commands. Console is just too practical when testing out new mods, adjusting camera/weather for screenshots or dealing with bethesda bugs to resign from it. It's a bit weird that everyone assume that it's too tempting not to cheat with it. I never felt like I had to boost my character on normal save. Test save for new mods on other hand is totaly different story, sometimes you just need to meet the minimum requirements to see if everything is working properly.

There weren't any problems with changing timescale in downgraded game engine version that Skyrim used, as long as you didn't go below 6. The only downside is that npcs will idle less often. For Skyrim you had even mods that dynamicaly adjusted the variable depending on cell type you loaded (interior, exterior, city).

In general, setting the timescale to anything above 6 is usually ok. Anything lower can mess with AI. However as for the actual survival mechanics, they auto adjust themselves when you change the timescale it seems. I set mine to 10 a while ago and it seems to be working fine.

  • 5 months later...

Necro to add more info, sorry.

Yeah, no issues with timescale to 6...I've played many hours with that option without any problem, but for the love of everything that is holy DO NOT EVER SET IT TO ZERO!

I was building my personal Vault 88 and I was (of course) burining through all my food stock...so big idea, set timescale to 0, freeze time, build the Vault without starving, set timescale to 6, gg....no.

Now my hunger, thirst and sleep counters are stuck in that timescale, even if the time started to flow again...so no more survival for that character, unless I go back 8 hours and start the whole construction again...fml
