Adam144
Hi everyone, Hoping some advanced modders could give me some help here :) I was following the tutorial found here which teaches you about the particles in NifSkope.. but.. I hardly understood anything. Basically what I want is, say, a sword which I can put the particle emitters on and then when I get in game it'll look like the blade is on fire. 1. Is this possible?2. Anybody care to let me in on how it's done? :)
Grond Vern
Yes this is very much possible. It can make for some stunning effects, too. That said, it is a rather lengthy subject, so I would rather talk with you about it via PMs.
PanzerOfGod
I don't think it's that lengthy.. In Nifskope, just open the mesh in Meshes --> Fire --> Fireopenlarge. Click the large white rectangle and a part of the window on the left will light up with blue. Right click the highlighted part (Should be number 97) and hit block --> copy branch. In the same Nifskope window, open your sword mesh, right click in the left window, and hit block --> paste branch. There should now be the same white square on the screen. Right click it, hit Transform --> Edit, and edit its size and position to your liking. Finally, click on the branch in the left window that has a number 0. Hit f2 if there isn't already a window in the bottom called "Block Details". When there is, and the branch with 0 is highlighted, you should see its values. One should be "Num Children" with a number to the right of it in the "Value" Column. Double click this number and increase it by 1. After that, right click the value "Children" and hit Array --> Update. Click the plus sign next to children and you'll see a list of the nodes that are parented to that particular node. One of the should say none in the Value Column. Double click "none" and a little number thing should replace it. Set the number there to the number of the fire's branch. Save your mesh, and put the sword ingame you-know-how. Side note: That white square is black on the other side. The flame will only show up on the white side. If you think you want to also see it on the black side, right click the flame's branch, hit block --> copy branch and then block --> paste branch. Rotate this new branch so that the white side is now opposite the other square's white side. If the new branch didn't start out parented (in the branch with the number 0's list), follow the steps above past the word "Finally". Good luck, and i suppose it wasn't quite as simple as i thought. It's easier doing it yourself than it is to read it or write it.
