Roleplay friendly start

I'm having a bit of a problem picking Fallout up again.

Why? Because I'm always the same guy/girl in it. Even though you can pick a different ending, the overall story and character development is still the same.

A big part of the problem (SPOILER) is that you are always the dad/mother of the villian. This destroys any hope of a sensible alternate start mod.

However, if we change the narrative a bit......

Instead of being the real father/mother, you are whoever you want to be and the questline starts when you find a boy (Shaun) who is searching for his parents when you enter the commonwealth as a scavenger, mercenary, or whatever.

You travel to the Vault he tells you about, talk a bit to shaun how he got out, find out the Institute is there. Shaun gets taken, pleads for your life, you get locked up in a cryo chamber by Kellog and wake up 70 years later.

Instead of Shaun it could also be the mother/father (depending on which sex you are). Who couldn't get her husband/wife out. You travel to the vault, both father and mother get killed, you promise to the dying mother/father that you will safe her/his baby and get locked in a Vault.

A bit weird, but not weird enough to break immersion/narrative.

there are just to many lines referring to your spouse and your child

im pretty sure someone works on something like that but it will take a long time to finish

not to mention that still not every dlc is out which im pretty sure would be needed for a mod like this

btw use the search function there are a ton of requests for the exact same thing

Alternate Start for Skyrim is a MUST HAVE mod for my game... if for nothing else to skip that longass new game intro. All the various beginning scenario set-ups are just icing on the cake.

For Fallout 4... the beginning intro isn't that bad; it doesn't take FOREVER. And you can always make a save right before you're asked to finallize your character and use that to start new games (which is what I always did in past Fallout games).

As for the main quest... I just don't care. I usually ignore it for a very long time cuz I wanna explore and play the way I want; I STILL haven't ever finished the main quest in FO4 with any character (and no, I don't care about the spoiler above). Even with Skyrim, I've only ever finished the main quest once - and that was enough.

While it would be cool to have an Alternate Start for FO4 (I'd use it), I don't need it to RP and play the game my way.

I've actually thought about this. It would be hard to do away with all the parent dialogue, but you could work around it. Here's two ways that I think have potential:

Mistaken Identity/Con-man: You're not Shaun's daddy, but everyone thinks you are. You could either (I) stumble across Vault 111, where this guy who looks strangely like you somehow managed to write his life story down while radroaches murderized him or (II) are mistaken for Father's father by a Synth or Ex-Institute Scientist or Henchman for kellog, it doesn't matter. You can either go along with it "It's me son... can I barrow a synth army?" or protest at every stage "guys, I'm really not who you think..."

The Best People Are Crazy: You're not Shaun's daddy, but you think you are. You're part of Vault number XYZ which houses the criminally insane... and their descendants. You could either (I) discover dead nate and decide that he's a vision of your past life or... something or (II) be granted the super-secret knowledge of your secret super-destiny on your 18th birthday by the vault-tech super secret dispensers! (Which look strangely like the dream pods from Fallout 3).

I think all of those who be a great way to add some levity to a seriously over-serious plotline.
