I think you are making this more complex than it needs to be. You have the .dazip file, right?

1. double click on daupdater

2. click on 'select DAZIPs' (left button at bottom)

3. select dazip file from browser (easiest if you have the dazip file in the same folder)

4. click 'Install selected'

You can use various mod managers (I don't). Drag and drop is not required to get daupdater to run.

Ok I think I discovered the problem.

I'm using winrar to unzip the files but when I get to extra dog slot

its comes up as an erf file and still wont go into the daoupdater what do I need to do?

I have no idea how to convert one file to another. Thanks

There's no reason to 'unzip' the archive. EDS downloads as a 'naked' DAzip (i.e., the mod is not package in a wrapper archive):

If it's not downloading with a DAzip extension, that's an issue with your internet browser... either troubleshoot that (there are numerous threads on these boards about that issue), or just rename the download to have the correct extension.

Hello and welcome,

at the very beginning it seems to be a little bit confusing with installing the mods. Don't worry! Anyhow, myself I had the same feeling.

So there are two sorts of mods:

1. The mods for the override folder. Very simple to handle: Unzipping the archive and then installation = put the result (a single file or often another folder) into the override folder; deinstallation = delete the file or the sub-folder into your override folder! There should be some readmes or hints into the description text of the mod.

2. The mods for the DAUpdater or another special program to install. It's without unzipping the archive, because the installing program is using the whole archive how it is.

This one seems to be a mod of the second sort.

Personally I wouldn't use the DAUpdater, at all, because it's not possible to remove some files with it.

Here on Nexus is another good tool for installing .dazip files, the DAModder. You will find it here:

http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/286/?

To find the files I am using I made a own new folder near the DAModder folder and called it: My dazips. Opening the DAModder you will see a window with vanilla setting "zip". You have to change it to "dazip" (kind of pop-up choosing) - clicking at the little arrow at the right side. Afterwards you can search in your folders for the wished .dazip file.

Hint: If you get another archive file format like .zip, then just rename it with .dazip, because the installing programs only accept the .dazip file format, which is standing for Dragon Age zip, I mean.

Hope, that will be helpful...

I know I'm necro'ing this, but there are two issues here which I don't see being widely addressed enough considering the impact they have, one on gameplay, the other on mod installing in general.

1.- Some mods come in .zip format when they should come as .dazip. People in the comments DO remind you to rename them, but what they don't mention is that some versions of Windows have a hide file extensions feature when renaming them. So you have to look for a way to disable that feature.

2.- Extra Dog Slot ruins one quest, hampers another one, and adds a feature I haven't seen being talked about. If you get captured by Ser Cauthrien with this mod enabled, being rescued by your companions becomes bugged to crap and you have to reload an old save. When reaching Anvil of The Void with this mod enabled, if you have Dog active he will force himself as a companion, with no possibility of being removed (as if he was Oghren). If you don't have Dog active then you won't be able to have a four-people party, only a three people one. Whatever the case is, if you don't choose Oghren (which you now can in this bugged state), an invisible Oghren will deliver his lines to Branka. Also, this mod enables you to have an unlimited ammount of "pets", which means you can have the dog, two ranger summons and an animate dead zombie from a mage simultaenously in a party.

1. What they do mention is that it is some of the browsers that rename them regardless of what the mod author named the file. The mod author and Nexus do not have ANY control over the browzer changing the file extension.

2. The specifics of the mod/gameplay can be discussed on the project page. The comments section for extra dog slot advise against having him in the party for Rescue Anora and Landsmeet. At least the comments were there a few years ago when I played the mod.
