CTD simply by approaching Kvatch

Hi,

I'm running several mods (nearly 200), and it had been running perfectly for a while. I recently started playing again having understood Wrye Bash better, and it was running like a charm even with all the stuff I had on.

However, when I decided to do the main quest, I encountered a problem that destroyed the game completely. I simply cannot get near Kvatch. Every time I try to go there, I get a CTD a certain distance away. I can see the city in the distance, but as I get closer the game just crashes. I have tried to google the problem and found that someone had the same issue, but reloading an earlier save fixed it. That didn't work for me at all. I then tried to run the game without Kvatch Rebuilt active, which I thought could have caused it, but it still crashed. Then I started a completely new game, with and without the mod installed, but both times I got the crash.

There's no way to play like this. I can't move on in either the main quest or the Kvatch Rebuilt questlines like this. I can't even go to places close to Kvatch because the game crashes.

Anyone have any idea? Really need help here and would appreciate it a lot.

Ditto - I've just re-installed Oblivion and have the same issue. I'm also using Wrye bash, latest 293 I think. I'm using an alternative start mod so I start in Anvil. Every time I get near Kvatch the game crashes. Here is my modest list of mods:

Basically, there's only one surefire way to pin it down.

First, disable ALL mods and attempt to replicate the crash. If your game crashes with every mod disabled, then it's a core bug and probably need to do a full uninstall (registry and left behind files included).

If it doesn't crash, then comes to tedious task of enabling mods one by one and trying to crash your game each time. If it make it easier, load them in batches of 5 or 10, especially with your mod list sporting 200 like you said. If you do batches, the same thing applies. Enable a group, try to crash.

Once you do, you can narrow it down to a single mod by disabling the last batch, and then turning them on one by one or whatever method allows you to pinpoint your culprit. After that? Well, either look into the mod in question to see if it has incompatiblity issues with something, if it's a known bug, etc. Not much else you can do from that point if the author can't/won't fix the problem except to not run that mod anymore.
