jasoneric
Hello, I played this game briefly a while back and am about to start fresh with a new character tonight. I am wondering if someone could help me because im pretty much a noob to this game. But I do know enough that character creation is very important. Im not sure actually what class would be the most fun for me, or which is easiest for a noob. So judging basically on then uniqueness of the class I thought it might be cool to make a stealth magic user type class. I dont know if this is a good idea or not. Could you give me some advice on something like this, if its a good idea. And do you think this is a good class for a beginner? Here are the stats I came up with after picking what I thought MIGHT be good: haha might is key word Name/Class: Elihu / ShadowmancerRace/Gender: Wood Elf (Bosmer) / MaleBirthsign: The ThiefSpecialization: MagicAttributes: Willpower, AgilityMajor Skills: Alchemy, Mysticism, Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Light Armor, Blade Health/Magicka/Fatigue: 80/80/170Max Level: 49.5Encumbrance: 150 Abilities: - Command Creature (daily: 20 pt. Touch for 1 min.) - Resist Disease (constant: 75 pt. Self) Stats: INTELLIGENCE-40: Alchemy-40, Mysticism-30, Conjuration-30 WILLPOWER-35: Destruction-30, Alteration-15, Restoration-30 PERSONALITY-30: Illusion-10, Mercantile-5, Speechcraft-5 AGILITY-65: Security-5, Sneak-15, Marksman-15 SPEED-60: Athletics-5, Acrobatics-10, Light Armor-30 STRENGTH-30: Blunt-5, Blade-25, Hand to Hand-5 ENDURANCE-40: Block-5, Armorer-5, Heavy Armor-5 LUCK-60 http://www.linklost.com/occ/?Elihu&Sha...5&14&16 so what is good or bad about my idea? thanks for any and all advice / critisism . Integrity
Try it and see. One thing though - how are you planning to be stealthy sans Sneak OR Illusion?
jasoneric
Try it and see. One thing though - how are you planning to be stealthy sans Sneak OR Illusion? I was planning on using sneak. I didnt know illusion offered something like that. The last time I played I only made 1 character and didnt get too far into the storyline before I had to quit. But at this point I am about to exit the sewers and I thought about your reply and ended up dropping illusion and adding sneak. Hopefully someone will come along and whisper a little bit more knowledge in Elihu's ear... thanks for the reply... Ive been reading for a while about the game and characters but nothing seemed to answer these questions anywhere. thanks again!
tsolless
Conjuration takes good chunks of magic to have it usefull at all as a main magic. Because of this you "might" want to rethink having three other magics as you will doubtfully be able to use all of them. Mysticism's good for sneak as it has the spell where you can see enemies up to a distance so when you enter buildings you can see everyone up to a good distance. It also can see through floors, walls, and ceilings, so it's a good thing to have as a mid/stealth. Destructions fine but with destruction it might take too much magic so you might not use one or the other. Destruction also doesn't get any sneak bonuses and blade gets really good bonuses, so you might want to drop destruction if you are going to be sneaking a fair amount. Restoration is good for anyone but with conjuration it might be cutting it close. I would keep it though.
jasoneric
ok so i should drop conjuration and pick mysticism iyo ? to be honest i had/have very little idea how a class like this would work, but it sounded interesting to me... so far i have been trying to stealth up and get a hit in and then i melee / nuke (spell dps) the enemy down. im not sure i would wanna drop destruction because i wanted to be able to have some spell dmg capability. dropping conjuration would feel proper for the class i kinda have in my mind.... i guess its kinda instead of a battle mage .... take out the battle and add in rogue.. kinda like a rogue mage maybe it can work, i dunno i was just trying to be unique and keep it fun. WrathOfDeadguy
Remember that casting a spell increases your visibility to anybody in the vicinity- large groups of enemies could be problematic for you because your first hit in many cases will be the only one that nobody sees coming. Illusion will be necessary because of that; the only way to counteract the "hey, I'm over here!" effect of casting magic is to hide yourself with either Chameleon or Invisibility after or during casting (hence the reason you should have Illusion as a major skill). Try to avoid spells with an area effect unless you know they'll kill everything they hit the first time. If you do drop Conjuration, you may want to at least skill-up it until you can summon something useful- it could come in handy for when your spells give your position away and you find yourself needing a distraction. Povuholo
For a stealthy caster illusion is very handy, because it allows you to cast invisibility. If you keep conjuration you can summon a monster during battle and cast invisibility and your enemy will attack your summon. Just remember that casting a spell, attacking something or picking up an item will make you visible again. Another useful illusion spell is calm, though it usually doesn't work later on because the monsters get too strong. When you cast it at an enemy he will stop attacking you. Mysticism's only advantage for stealth is the detect life spell, but it's much easier to wear a ring of detect life and take conjuration instead. Iapetus
Y'AI NG'NGAHYOGH-SOTHOTHH'EE-L'GEBF'AI THRODOGUAAAH Restoration is fine and dandy, but ultimately duplicated with Alchemy. The same goes for Destruction. While the two would give you healing and firepower, Alchemy can do both for half the cost. Nothing beats a good poison, and a potion can shield you and reduce the weight you are carrying, letting you get out of a lot of tight corners. While you are at it, pick up Marksman. The versatility of poisons, combined with the range to get it across that gap. OGTHROD AI'FGEB'L-EE'HYOG-SOTHOTH'NGAH'NG AI'YZHRO
