Just kinda something I came up with.

There were brother gods.

The two brothers would not separate. And as time grew past, as all who spend all time together they would argue and disagree. It was in one of these that one brother struck the other, and they fought. As they fought, they shed blood and flesh. This blood became magic, and this flesh became the worlds. The two brothers fought for eternities on end, until finally they grew tired and stopped. One brother looked, and he saw what they had made, and he showed it to the other. The worlds were in chaos, consumed by misery and death. And the brothers wept at what they had done in their foolishness. They took it upon themselves to right this wrong, and so created the first four of the gods.

These four were as follows: The God of Life, The God of Death, The God of Souls, The God of Time.

The gods traveled the worlds, learning what they had been given. And so the gods of Life, Death, and Souls settled upon a world as the god of Time took all the nether. This world's inhabitants were Men and Mer, and the gods found them pleasing. The God of Life took the Mer as his own, and gave them his gift. The God of Souls took no favorite, and gave to all in equal. The God of Death took of Men, and from him created the first of the Unliving, known as Vampires.

And so eons passed, and the world was in balance. It was this way until the brother gods returned. In their power, they entered into the worlds and walked among men and mer. The two saw the beauty of the women and took of them. In this fallacy, a child was conceived inside a woman of the Mer, and was born. A monster, it's skin as iron and a fire within it's chest. It saw no pleasure in the worlds, and spawned the race of Dragons to bring evil unto the worlds.

In the coming eons, there was destruction. The three gods of Life, Death, and Souls were helpless to stop this. The new god who made the dragons was greater than any of them, save the god of Time, who was not aware of this.

The races of Men and Mer fought the race of Dragons, the Dragons raining devastation. But Men were numerous and clever, with Mer wise and powerful. They hunted the dragons one by one, snuffing them systematically from all existence. Until only a single remained. This was the Dragon Nev'yoohaul, an old and powerful creature of cruel magics. The hunters cornered him on the slopes of a mountain, wounding his wings. The monster retreated to an ice cave, and held there for three months. Until finally, a single knight charged into the den, defying the fates that had befallen all the rest. There he did battle with the beast for many nights, until he struck true, and drove his blade into it's black heart.

But Nev'yoohaul was crafty and powerful, and with his dying breath and flame he did the unspeakable. He summoned the God of Souls, forcing him to bind the souls of his race with that of Men. In doing so, he himself was destroyed, but his curse was a success.

In the coming years, men became twisted, growing like in their hearts as the dragons they had destroyed. Some were twisted further, being able to take on the shape of a dragon. In desperation, they went to the Mer, who did the best they could in the way of helping, but they could not undo the work of a god. Man's corruption was lessened, and their sanity returned, but they would forever have darkness within them. And the men who were also dragons persisted, though they too regained their minds.

Hope it was OK, kindof a backdrop for something I have bouncing around. I know, just a bit wordy. Might actually get to work on the story itself, might not. *shrug*
