Deleted2172306User
Fallout 3 GoTY crashes on startup. Nothing but black screen shows up before it crashes. I bought it on Steam.I was able to play the game from disk and not GoTY, without any DLCs about a year ago on the same system - Windows 7 x64. I bought the game recently because I lost my disk. I've reinstalled Windows in the meantime once.I've got DirectX installed when launching games on Steam, also installed using a webinstall from MS website recently, so it's up-to-date. There is no other game that crashes too. My Nvidia drivers are latest version also.I've tried reinstalling the game but it still didn't work. I've tried deleting F3 folder from My Documents which also didn't help.I've tried compatibility modes and "Run as Administrator" function, neither did help.I haven't changed anything in my hardware so it's not hardware-related. What might be the problem?
quicksilverva
almost sounds like a missing .esm run a search for fallout 3.esm (or fallout3.esm). if its not there, verify the integrity of the game cache, and steam will download anything thats missing
Deleted2172306User
Fallout3.esm is there. Also I've ran integrity check a few times, it passed the test and nothing was downloaded.
Ygfbv
use FOMM to redate Fallout3.esm so that it's older than the DLC esm's. that might fix it.
Deleted2172306User
Not sure how to use it but my guess was to re-save the files with FOMM. I did that and it still didn't work.
theuserman
I was having instant crashes as well - the resolution in my startup menu didn't match the screen. Could be that simple. Did you check that? For example my screen resolution a 1440x900 but it was set to 1024x960 (or something to that extent). Deleted2172306User
Yea, I did. Tried all the available resolutions, both with windowed and full screen modes. Didn't help.
prensa
newn - Hello! In FOMM, is your load order: Fallout3.esmAnchorage.esmThePitt.esmBrokenSteel.esmPointLookout.esmZeta.esm The really important thing is that Fallout3.esm loads first. Are you using Games for Windows Live? I don't but still had trouble with the DLCs until I used FOMM's G4WL workaround. If you don't use G4WL: Open FOMM, go to - Tools - Install Tweaker & tick "Use fake xlive.dll". If you do use G4WL try updating it from Microsoft. Hope this helps! PrensaYea, I unintentionally made Fallout3.esm to load first when I first ran FOMM. It still didn't work.As for GFWL, I already did, got the latest version.I've also tried reinstalling F3 by completely removing everything related to it. Ygfbv
Delete your data folder and delete the Fallout 3 folder in \my games\ as well. Revalidate your files on Steam. That's the only thing that I can think of that would fix it, even if you already did it.
