It's one hell of a head banging against the wall at times kind of game, but once you get the basics down, it's great. I tried Minecraft, and I just couldn't get into it. I think because I was trying the free demo, and it had all the awesome stuff crippled. I love Dwarf Fortress, though. Forgotten Beasts from before time began invade your fort. Your dwarves go into weird, secretive moods, claim a workshop, and turn out amazing artifacts...or go mad, possibly even berserk, from failure. Megabeasts, goblins, and other creatures attack, with only your carefully honed military (and perhaps judicious application of enough magma to make Mehrunes Dagon delirious with joy) to assure your victory. Megaprojects! Trading! Annoying nobles making demands! Catsplosion! Hell itself! That's why I like Dwarf Fortress. So let's debate the finer points of both.
