Except he is joking, since there are no 16 core (Well, aside from server CPUs) nor does a GTX 1280 exist (Hell, the 1080 hasnt even launched yet).

Was a joke thread ;)

I bought a 4k monitor in the beginning of 2015. Tiger Direct(has stores in South Florida)had one running a 4k demo along side the usual 1080 monitors. If I had not seen it actually running a 4k demo I would not have bought it.

Fortunately I did my research & bought a monitor that dose a perfect 2560 X 1440. That is the resolution that I play "new" games at. Older games that have been modded with large textures like Fallout 3/NV, Oblivion, Mass Effect & Morrowind are the only games I play at 4k. Fallout 4 is the only modern game I play at 4k.

Unless you are a big fan of older modded games I would not recommend 4k.

For some strange reason 4k monitors are about the same price as 1440 monitors($449) of equal quality. If you are happy with 60hz go 4k. If you want 144hz go 1440. Both cost less than the CRT monitors I used in the 90s.

I'm playing FO4 on a 28 inch Iiyama 4K TN monitor and it looks and plays excellent. I'm currently using a Sapphire Nitro R9 390 and I very rarely get any slowdown, even with almost everything on the highest settings.

LOD issues are RUINOUS to the look of FO4, and NOTHING can fix this issue. The game was designed for the PS3 (and would have looked very good on that platform, had not the PS3 version been cancelled 2/3 way thru dev). But a current gen engine is the very opposite of that used for FO4.

Bang the game to 4K, and you simply expose the weak assets, and very poor LOD system used to render content from more distant cells. Force more cells to load thru the immediate proximity render system, and watch as the game breaks in a thousand different ways.

You can make individual discrete object look very good via mods that improve their meshes and texture. The land is hard-coded, so forget that beyond texture and vegetation replacers.

Particle systems and physics are very limited indeed in terms of improveability.

Here's the HARD truth- everyone will be glad to forget about FO4 when Skyrim 2 appears on Beth's FIRST current gen engine used for their open-world titles. In the meantime, a lightly modded FO4 already achieves most of what even the best late visual mods will bring to this game. What FO4 needs is NOT more graphical mods, but more world building/story mods- for that is the area where FO4 is very lacking.

I have not gone with a high Hz monitor because I have never seen one in action. Seeing is believing when it comes to monitors.

My new 3440 X 1440 monitor is a 60hz VA panel. If it wasn't for youtube reviews & a $300 price drop I would have never gotten it.

Anyway. How can we be PC elitists if we are all running potatoes? :geek:

I got my GTX 1280 on pre-order don't you?

I bet TES 6 is still running on a rehashed Morrowind engine.

my god i know how you feel. i have a 55" 4k tv. i moved my pc form my room to the tv room and played some fallout. it was freeing unbelievable. moved back to my room (my monitor is maybe only 720p maaaaaaybe 1080p and its just sad to play fallout now. it really looses something.

just check my screen resolution is 1366 x 768. Shees its so s#*! compared to 4k. i need a new monitor :)

zanity Fallout 4 is a freak.

I have done 1100 hours with it at 4k. It has less issues at 4k than it dose at 1080. I have had only 3 CTDs & they were causes by BodySlide. The vanilla textures are perfect for 4k. I only got lod issues after playing way too long.

Seeing is believing so I don't expect anyone to "get it" unless they play it at 4k.

I do agree with you about the mods though. I will be back playing Skyrim for a while & see what develops.

meh. Call me crazy but I have never been overly concerned about going beyond my 1920x1080 tbh. Looks plenty good and much easier to run at 60 FPS on all games. And way cheaper monitor.

I just didn't feel like I saw enough of a difference to justify it for me.
