Final Thieves Guild Quest Fails to Happen

Hi,

Great forums! :) LOTS of information - maybe too much.

O.K., I've finished the "Arrow of Extrication" quest. And, done the

"Boots of Springheel Jak" a long time ago - but, this does not show

as completed.

The Gray Fox does not always show up where he is supposed to be.

Starting in Bruma - he did not show up in the house there. And,

other places he's just not there - he's somewhere else. Now I

cannot find him and Fathis is supposed to tell me to go to Othrelos

house for the final quest.

I've installed and tried both FathisFix.esp and FathisUleWorks.esp

and both work fine. But, Fathis never mentions the final quest....

I wouldn't even mind starting the thieves guild quests all over

again.... But, not all of the others I've completed....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help!

Regards,

Fathis certainly does not give you the final quest, IIRC Amusei does. If the Boots quest does not show as complete you cannot get the next one. It is possible to use the console to complete the boots quest but it is perhaps something you have not done? If you have the boots then maybe you need to advance the quest via the console. Open the console and type getstage tg10boots and let us know what number you get.

Hi,

The "getstage tg10boots" reports back "45.00".

However, the Gray Fox is no longer in the house in Cheydinhal. And,

I've had the boots a long time. I did meet him in the Cheydinhal

house - but, it was apparently for a different quest. The arrow quest.

It is like the order of his appearance in the houses got jumbled up.

I hope the getstage 45.00 means something to you. And, thanks

again in advance for your help.

Note: I tried getting to the server earlier today. It responded to ping,

but, the forums pages would not come up....

Thanks again,

The trouble with finishing the quest with the console is that it MAY cause problems later.

In the first instance I would try this. Go to Ganredhel's house in Cheydinhal. When inside open the console and type player.placeatme 14653 1

In theory this should put the Gray Fox beside you. If the last update was 45 you should be able to give him the boots. (Unless you have been thrown out of the Thieves Guild of course but I assume you checked that.)

If that doesn't work, to end the quest via the console type setstage TG10boots 50.

The problem is that you will still have the boots. As he is about to give them back to you at the start of the final quest it may not matter but if the first option works, it would be better IMO.

Hi,

Someone else posted a question after your post, asking if I had killed the

Vampire, the "crazy guy" that gave me the keys. I'll answer that question

here - I do NOT remember! It was long ago - I had read about the boots

and wanted them, so I went and got them.... O.K., the guy in IC - "Jakben,

Earl of Imbel" - I fought him many times and was able to get nice silver

arrows the guards used. BUT, he always came back to life! So, I don't

think I killed him. But, who knows....

I ran the "player.placeatme 14653 1" in the cheydinhal house and the Gray

Fox showed up! When I talk to him, he says "I assume you found Springheel

Jak's tomb". Then a dialog box opens with the following two choices:

- About the thieves guild

- Pay off my fines and bounty

Not what I had hoped for!!

I then ran the "setstage tg10boots 50" and when I talked to him he took

the boots and the quest completed window showed up. Then when I talked

to him again, he said: "Not now I need to think". And, that was his only

response.

Would I be better off resetting the boots quest to start all over again? By

now the quests are getting pretty easy.... Again, your suggestions and

help are greatly appreciated!

By the way, where are all of these commands documented? In one of the

FAQs I found reference to a "quest ID". And, tg10boots must be the quest

ID. But, I could never find details of the reference ID's.

Thanks again. I hope it's o.k. responding to BOTH replies in this one.....

Once you have completed the boots quest you will need to wait before Amusei tells you the Gray Fox wishes to see you again. After you exit the dialogue, you'll get the usual pop up note about having fenced enough money. Assuming you have, if you hang around the Imp City you shouldn't have to wait too long. The Gray Fox does not talk to you again until Amusei has summoned you to him. AFAIK you cannot reset a quest so I'd leave it for a few game days and see if it advances as it should.

If you find the quests are getting too easy you can either level up several times or change the game difficulty slider to make it harder. Doing the final TG quest at level 25 up with the slider at hardest is nigh on impossible!

Reference IDs for all Oblivion items and npcs can be found at Planet Elder Scrolls website. UESP has a link if you check under their console commands section 'placeatme' I think.

To find a quest ID you need to open the Construction set (a free download from the official forum), in 'data file' click Oblivion. When it has loaded click Character, then quest, then quest stages. Getstage questID will tell you where you are, setstage questID stage number will advance the quest to that number. It is NOT advised to do this unless you are sure it won't screw the quest later.

Hi,

I'll go ahead and reset that as completed and then seek out Amusei. Lately he's been

hanging around the waterfront.

I'll try this out later tonight and let you know the results. Thanks again for all of your

help and insights! :D

AFAIK the quest is programmed to allow time to elapse before you get the next part. You may not be able to prompt Amusei. Do some of the other IC quests, burgle houses or collect ingredients from the Imp City ponds and cemetery. Or you can simply sleep in your Imp City home. Amusei is fond of waking you up in the middle of the night to pass on the Gray Fox's requests. The time you wait between quests seems to have a random element to it. Some people have waited several days, some find it arrives next day.

Hi,

I killed three more minataurs in the arena, travelled to Anvil to sell a few

items, and then went to the ArchMages room to creat some spells. Amusei

finally showed up and I went to Othrelo's house and the Gray Fox was there.

The Ultimate Heist sounds like it will be a fun quest!

Thanks again for all of your help! I never would have been able to figure

out how to complete that quest without your assistance.

If there is anything I can do to return the favor, please let me know.
