walrus2517
I've made a terrain edit mod but sometimes the lighting screws up at night along the cell borders so that the terrain in one cell is very bright while the next is still dark. Is this due to the game engine or something I have or haven't done?
Rigger1209
Hi there, could you perhaps post a screenshot of it? I have the feeling you mean something I came across not long ago building a custom worldspace. not sure thouh.
MyGoodEye
Game Engine all the way. It drove me NUTS when I was making ELECTRO-CITY but I finally found that it's an "engine problem" that I was able to duplicate in Vanilla... it simply became more noticeable because I was adding more lights and darker nights but it's there nonetheless. I never found a true 'fix' for it, but it's minimized by not having too many lights in one cell and trying not to have the light-radius pass through a cell-border at the ground/terrain level. Another cheapo workaround is to drop a 'floor' model (like the runway from Nellis). Lights work fine on models. The render issue appears to only happen on terrain. (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37908... scroll down to my GROUND RENDER RANT for my 'proof'). - David
walrus2517
Thanks MGE! I knew I'd seen the problem explained before I just couldn't remember where. Too bad there is no fix. I play with almost pitch black nights thanks to your Electro City - Darker Nights.esp and like you would rather have the cell lighting issue than play with vanilla lighting where midnight is as bright as high noon. :) Fortunately, in this case the lights are from spotlights so I can hopefully just adjust them away from the cell edges as I don't think dropping floor models will work for me. I'll definitely keep that workaround in mind in the future though.
