Looking for advice on installing several mods.

Recommended Posts

Now that there are some people on, I'll ask a question I've been pondering for a while now. I'm trying to install Project Nevada and MCM + most of the uHUD odds and ends. When I install PN first, MCM wants to overwrite the main_menu.xml and if I do that then PN spazzes out on me and reports an error upon game start that it's missing files. If I do it the other way (MCM then PN) PN works but MCM won't work. On the MCM page they mention that you'll need to edit the xml but that uHUD project will automate it.

So my question is, does it matter what order I install PN and MCM as long as I follow up with uHUD? I'm not entirely certain as to the function of uHUD in the first place, maybe that's what's tripping me up.

You can take a look at Gophers video series, it explains which UI mods to install in which order:

Besides that, in your case it should be 1. PN 2. MCM 3. uHUD.

The reason why it's not working:

Both PN and MCM need to change to hud_main_menu.xml. If you install PN first, MCM will completely overwrite the changes, so PN complains that it's required changes are no longer there. If you install MCM first, PN will append its changes instead of completely overwriting those by MCM, which solves that previous problem, but the MCM files packaged with PN are outdated :psyduck: , so the most recent MCM.esp will probably not work with those old files.

If you install PN first, then MCM to get the most recent XMLs, finally uHUD will fix the hud_main_menu.xml to include changes of both mods.

Outstanding, thanks for that. I'll check those out in a bit and it sounds like I just wasn't going far enough into the install process then. I appreciate your assistance. You mention that the MCM files PN installs are outdated, how might I go about updating them? Or will that happen when I install MCM in its entirety?

Re-Edit: Never mind, you answered that in the last sentence, again, thank you very much.

Edit: Yeah, that's what I was thinking Walrus, thanks for the confirmation though. Kudos to you both. =)
