  1. 1. Are NDEs evidence of an afterlife etc. ?

    • Yes, though only subjective.

    • No, they are only hallucinations caused by anoxia.

Here´s some background reading:

Near death experiences usually occur when somebody is clinically dead, that is their heart has stopped. From this state people have been brought back to life and some of them have had amazing stories to tell.

While these stories cannot be accepted as empirical proof of an afterlife, they are highly interesting.

These experiences differ somewhat from person to person, but they do have some common elements, such as being out of your body, a tunnel or something similar, a bright light, beings of light etc. etc.

The question is, can these experiences be seen as subjective proof of an afterlife etc., or are they just complex hallucinations caused by anoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain.)

So, do you accept these experiences as proof of a life beyond death, or do you consider them as nothing more than a hallucination, in which case there is nothing but oblivion awaiting in death.

Personally I am highly intrigued by these experiences and I CHOOSE to believe in them, because the other option, oblivion, is far too scary. It would seem like such a waste that all we are, our hopes and dreams, our personalities, our knowledge, our memories, everything, should just disappear forever at death. If these experiences prove out to be nothing more than hallucinations before oblivion, then it is a more pleasant way to go than being in absolute terror of disappearing forever.

If these experiences however are indicative of an afterlife, then from what I have read, death will be an interesting experience and the life beyond even more interesting.

So much so in fact that could these reports be seen as dangerous material to read if you are suicidal, because they might make you curious about death instead of being afraid of it?

Research is ongoing and at least for now, only the out of body part has been successfully generated by using medications to stimulate the brain.

Also, some report being more conscious than normally during NDEs and this is highly interesting because one would expect level of consciousness to drop during periods of anoxia.

These experiences challenge the notion that consciousness is located exclusively in the brain as conventional neuroscience states.

What are your thoughts on the idea?

Enough is enough. If you continue to pursue this course you will regret you decision. This is the second one today, the next will be your last.

This is all the chances you are going to get......no religious debates are allowed.
