boyandhisdogs
I'm a fairly experienced Skyrimmer at this point, and I was looking for something that focused more on roleplay and forcing you to specialize and make compromises, requiring more thought and tactics than button mashing and gear-acquiring. Requiem sounded perfect for this, and 90% of it is, except for the maddeningly absurd archery! :wallbash: I've been an archer all my life. I got my first bow at age 3 and have been a recreational archer and bow hunter ever since, I shot 3D competitively and even took first in my class at Vegas when I was 14 (for the other archers out there). Because of this, I'm a stickler for realistic or at least somewhat believable archery in games. But the archery in Requiem completely blows "suspension of disbelief" out of the water. Why is it that I'm getting head-shot by bandits from far away but my own arrows only go about as far as I can chuck a watermelon? Why can I one shot a skooma'd up bandit but a deer takes 10 or more? Your skill as an archer has no effect on how far a given bow will launch a given arrow. It does, however, drastically affect the "spread" of your arrows, which I've noticed is an adjustable constant in MCM... and not skill based? I really wanted to build a woodsman/ranger character, and the lack of a solid archery system makes this impossible. And yes, I clicked "better archery" in MCM, and my arrows went from sneezing distance to spitting distance. Yay... I really like how they categorized the bows and arrows (light/heavy) as this is how it is in real life, though I don't necessarily agree with what's what.IMO there should be 3 general kinds of bows. Things like the hunting bow and colovian composites should be considered "light" bows that are, well, light. Lower encumbrance and draw weight, so less stamina drain and faster draws but reduced power, and a speed/trajectory penalty with "heavy" arrows. Then you'd have heavy bows like the spring steel and longbow, which historically had obscene draw weights often double that of a standard hunting bow, and were used to lob arrows over great distances in vollies rather than individual aimed shots. These should have a heavy stamina drain and a slower draw but tons of power and range, especially with heavy arrows and decent armor piercing value, maybe even more likely to "break" light arrows. Then you'd have war bows like the standard elven/dwarven/orcish/etc that would fall at various points in between. That way you don't have "good, better, best" but different bows for different applications and personal preferences, just like real life. Long post short, are these things that can be tweaked simply (like in a text editor) or do I have to use more serious modding tools/skills? Should I just give up on Requiem in favor of an assortment of smaller mods that accomplish the same thing so I can customize more? Thanks for reading all my ramblings.
