Changing Biped Slots on an Outfit

I'm trying to edit an outfit, so only the shoes remain. In conjunction, I'm trying to change the biped slot in the Creation Kit to one of the unnamed ones, such as 54 or 58.

 

My logic is that I can then use these shoes in conjunction with another outfit that doesn't use the 54/58/whatever slot.

 

I've edited the mesh to remove the non-shoe bits and used the CK to change the biped slot in both the Armor and ArmorAddon.

 

When I load the object in game, it shoes the shoes correctly, but adds a body as well (that is different to the companion I'm testing on).

 

Does anyone know why this happens and how I can avoid this behaviour?
