FlyingHigh10000000
So, the plan is to place Eli, from the film "The Book of Eli" in the game, preferably wandering down a highway, or maybe even travelling in a route across different areas. The point behind it would be that the player would eventually encounter Eli, and, depending on karma, one of three things might happen. 1: Evil karma would cause Eli to attack when in combat range, which for him would be quite an ambush, considering his sensory abilities. The fight would be tough, and despite his looks, the blind, aging Eli would be quite an opponent, for say, a level 10-15 Courier. Upon defeating Eli, the player would lose more karma, and be able to loot Eli's corpse, though it would be treated as a crime to walk around with his gear on if taken this way.(Possibly through a faction attached to the drop, but only with this option.) 2: Neutral karma would provoke no reaction from Eli, though a friendly duel, or Caravan, perhaps, would be accepted if offered. The duel would possibly have a script much like the current Liberty Prime companion mod out, that gives you a chance to fight LP before hiring him.(He doesn't die, but falls over, and stands up "reprogrammed" I guess. Dismemberment would have to be disabled for the initial encounter in this case.) 3: Good karma would allow the player to recruit Eli as an ally, with the condition that if he joins The Legion, or aids those such as the Khans and Fiends, or kills non-hostile civilians, the deal would be off, and the player would never see Eli again. Eli would obviously make for an amazing ally, with his speed in melee combat, and his marksmanship skills. In addition, a special perk of "blessing" would be bestowed, that would add 5 DT to the player and all companions. Eli would have this perk, but much more powerful(Think power armor's DT) to simulate the supernatural events that seemed to allow him to continue his journey with the book.(Bullets missing him at close range, for instance.) Another interaction with Eli would be just being able to watch him kick around any baddies that happen to stumble across him. Fiends, Vipers, etc, should stand no chance against him, and would definitely be cut to ribbons or shot down within a few attacks. Perhaps he might have his own faction, allowing the player to develop a personal alliance with him, without being a companion. (He would be like Victor in Goodsprings, and assist in combat initiated by or against the player, if the player had previously helped him, or if the enemies are of a certain faction.) In short, with a bit of GECKing about, and possibly some scripts, I could do this pretty easily. The questions I have are: 1: Is this mod possible without having to write up scripts in NVSE? 2: If not, what kind of things might this entail? 3: Would anyone actually be interested in this? 4: Am I thinking too big for my second mod?(The first being an Eli companion that...kinda sucked, to be honest.) TrooperScooperMKII
Well, you could start by having as a "cameo encounter" culture reference a la the Wild Wasteland Trait. If you can get him as a cameo in game, then you might attract more attention to the concept and have a decent base from which to expand the idea. You could definitely get him into the game w/o NVSE, but I don't know whether you'd need it for the other things. Why not have him and the PC set as essential during the duel, i.e. knocked unconscious? The problem might be with companions, but I don't think it's too difficult to reset hostility, and IIRC there's a freeze ai type command in the GECK Wiki. I saw a boxing mod concept, try looking into that for the general mechanics of a duel. If that mod needed NVSE, then you might need it too. Here's the GECK Wiki page, in case you're interested. Even if you aren't trying to script something yourself, just browsing the various commands and conditions can give you a general idea of what's possible and what isn't.It has a category for NVSE as well, separate from the rest of the wiki. FlyingHigh10000000
Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look into it, and probably start work on at very least putting together an encounter. Boxing actually sounds great. There are boxing gloves and tape in the game already, and Fallout 2 had two pretty great "controlled fight" events. Might make for an interesting revival, to bring back the old boxers.
