DrGary
>:( >:(Hi there, I dont have internet access at home by choice so i havent had time to trawl through every posting for Oblivion tech help but i still have a very frustrating problem nonetheless and hope you guys can help... Im running Oblivion on the same machine now that i ran it on a year ago but now it doesnt work properly; i have regular problems i can only define as lag, such as waterfalls moving slowly, lifts and traps moving up and down in a stop/ start way and numerous other movement issues. I am quite a competent computer user and usually successful at fixing issues and have tried all manner of things to fix my game but its still not working well, other side effects include leaving a building, tomb etc the computer will freeze/crash making an awful noise (requires reboot), attempting to load saves will result in load bar freezing along the load (requires reboot). Steps ive tried to fix it include: Complete Reinstallation of OblivionRemoving Mods that Mod manager states have conflicts even Minor OnesRolling Back Soundcard and Graphics drivers to last years drivers (as i assumed maybe the newest drivers cause issues)Checking DirectX CompatibilityShutting down other programs running and changing the priority of OblivionManually trying to squeeze more performance out of my card via its Manual 3D Tools suitePlacing all of Oblivions settings on the lowest possible functional levelDisk checks, Defrags and manual cleaning About the only thing i havent done is wiped the machine and reinstalled windows... The only thing i can think is as i recently sent the computer away for maintenance maybe theyve updated all the drivers and somehow their not compatible?? This is all bloody frustrating as it worked before and whats happening doesnt make any sense to me however the impact is making the game almost unplayable; HELP!! Abramul
Does this problem occur if you start a new game with no active mods? If not, how many hours does your current save have? The lag bit sounds similar to the animation bug, although I don't think that causes crashes. Also, you didn't explicitly mention whether you've run a full malware/virus scan. DrGary
I will run another Virus Scan, though as i said i dont have Internet access so not much chance of malware or Viruses. Strangely the Save Crashing issue etc seems to have cleared up for its been behaving well for the last 2 days, maybe in the process of uninstalling and reinstalling oblivion, and moving, changing, deleting mods i fixed something though havent a clue what. I just read the article you mentioned and the 'A-Bomb' effect sounds very similar to whats happening to me, i will download a tool and reread it at home and consider if this could be the problem. Also im really not happy with my soundcard, its a 5.1 surround sound trustcard last drivers i could get were 2002, even though it seems to work fine with everything else im convinced its not a good one, i might consider changing it... thanks for the continuing advice will look forward to your reply and im sure we can fix it... cheers Gary ps-once weve dealt with this i have another question for ya mate related to third party mods. Sypron
Don't forget to start a new game like Abramul suggested. Thats the easiest way to check if the problem is related to your current file. Also: are your running Shivering Isles and which patch are you using?
DrGary
havent installed any manual patches just Oblivion-Knights of the Nine-Shivering Isles then various 3rd party mods. the big 3 brings my version to the one listed in my first post 1.2.0208 or something. Why have i missed something criticial? i figured with KON and SI i wouldnt need any manual patches. yes i will check with a new game in a a bit, but if it isnt the famous A-Bomb Animation Bug lord knows what it could be.
