It's based on you what you like.

FONV has more details and better textures on enemies but FO3 has way more to explore, bigger map and with the underground stations it's just huge compared to NV.

I have FO3 GOTY edition because it has all DLC's so I don't need to buy them extra.

Fallout NV will soon release a GOTY edition.

But it's your decision.

Fallout 3 is really fun, but it doesn't have things that nv has like built in ironsights, factions, and NCR Rangers. But it does have FWE. which kind of makes up for it if you ask me :S

The gameworld of FO3 is much more interesting but FNV gameplay is more refined being the newer game IMO. If atmosphere and exploration are important to you than you will probably enjoy Fallout3. I would go for the GOTY edition because the included DLCs will allow you to use more mods if you are into mods.

Cheers

The main differences of FO3 from NV

- No ironsights

- You can't join factions

- Companions aren't essential, they don't have personal quests and they aren't many.

- Game world is bigger and you don't have to follow a linear-path like in NV, you can go wherever you want

- DC wasteland is far more irradiated and barren than the Mojave

- There are less settlements with much less population

- There are more interesting locations to explore

- There are less quests, but more interesting ones

- It's really harder to acquire gear, weapons, ammo, food, water and medicine

- You start the game in a vault

- You character doesn't lack a background like NV, he has personal history
