Mods for better gaming?

Hello,

before skyrim comes out I want to play Oblivion. I never had finished it before. So I have to choose to play it on PC or my XBox.

Are there any good mods for Oblivion which I should use on PC? I mean mods for better gameplay which doesn't lead to a major unbalance as I want to play the game from start to finish. And the ultimate sword of destruction and slaying, I think, will give me to much power. Are there any compilations of mods?

The advantage of the XBox-Version is the great flatscreen in my livingroom but I couldn't use mods what is the advantage of the PC.

Regards...

This is way, way too broad of a question really. Check out some of the guides to picking mods available out there. If you search "oblivion mod guide" you'll get dozens. These will help explain what type of mods are out there, what will suit your gameplay style, and what are the most popular.

To answer your question though, yes, there are mods that improve gameplay: hundreds of them even. Some of the more popular ones are Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Francesco's Leveled Lists, Oblivion WarCry, and Martigen's Monster Mod. These all do similar things. The most important change these make is that monsters/NPCs no longer level with the player, or do so at a limited/capped rate.

In the base unmodded game, since monsters level with you, you never really get stronger than them, and in some cases, you can get weaker if you don't follow a strict leveling process. With these mods, you don't have to worry about that as every time you level you will be getting more powerful, the world does not revolve around you. There is a mod called FCOM: convergence, which as you might guess is a convergence of these 4 mods. However, I would not recommend it for the beginning mod user.

I definitely recommend playing on your PC because unmodded Oblivion is really annoying in my opinion. There are so many things that need fixing and you'll be stuck with them on the XBOX whereas if there's something you don't like about it on the PC, chances are, there's a mod for that.

The Question is, what Game you want to play. There are more mods in the internet-world, (not only on Tesnexus) then you can imagine(I myself have about 5.000(packed 125 MB)). For beginning building up a mod structure of your own game Gutwulf has an a fine site for a first look, what you can do. (http://www.proxima-ltd.de/oblivionmods/oblivionmods.htm) But this ist just the beginning.

Aesgard, Golden Crest and hundreds of other questmods extend the game to something you never would have on x-Box. Oblivision War Cry and Nehrim, Elyswhere, OOO, convert the game to more than one game. Mods like Cobl, Primal needs, bath mod, compagnion mods change it to a world near to second life. So first Download Tes-construction-set, OBMM, OBSE and OBGE and then begin to create your own gameworld with the mods you like.

If you want a fast game play on x-Box. If you want to create your own game with the help of thousands of modders beginn on PC and we see you in 5 Years here. Then the community will have changed Nehrim enough to go there. I myself changed from Morrowind just a few yeas ago.

Personally for me quest mods make for much better gaming. 1000's of hours worth of play time and characters, stories, and gameplay that aren't geneic as all hell like in the vanilla game. There's also major overhauls, combat mods, graphics mods, companion mods, item mods, and just about everything you can imagine. use the below generic thing I post as a way to search around, and probably answer the questions too so we can customize our suggestions to what mods YOU really want.

Here's my generic written thing for these topics. if you want something specific give more details. I ask some questions in the below text as a small guide line. You can answer them if you wish:

Lists and resources for finding many popular mods, and some good mods:

(note the distinction between the two, don't just follow mindless peer pressure, try and make your own opinions and find what you'll like)

List of topics exactly like yours generic pleadings for "Any mods?" that have already been answered:

Read the AZERessential topics to get the basic "get wryebash, OBMM, OBSE, start slow" basic advice for starters recommendations

If you want any further help I suggest you tell us about yourself; what you like and what you're looking for... Here's some questions to get you started:

Have you played Oblivion already?

What sort of things interest you?

What type of Character do you usually play? (good/evil, theif/mage, roleplayer/random-no-story-hack-and-slasher?)

Are there specific types of mods you think would interest you? (Quests, graphic mods, gameplay mods, overhauls, etc.)

When did you leave?

What did you not like about Oblivion? What did Oblivion not have or need more of?

Male or female character?

For the occasional "What are your must haves?"

Mostly quest mods: http://kno.li/i

My favorite quests are:

Integration (my most favorite)

Malevolent, Runied tail, Tears of the fiend

Windfall

The Blackwood company

Dremora Companion

Servant of the Dawn

Imperial Legion Faction

Gameplay mods:

Hear No Evil

Vector

Crime Has Witnesses

Audacious Magery

Conduit magic

Custom spell Icons

Training cattle

Keychain

Refscope(good for troubleshooting)

Vows and Covenants

Pluke's roleplaying persuasion

LAME (Needed for Integration)

RBP (Needed for Integration)

I'm mostly a quest mod player and I recently posted a big rundown for most of them that I've played here and here.

(Some of these are probably outdated by now)

S'lider's Copy/paste

SkyRanger-1's

Pseron Wyrd's top 10 (Don't really want a lot top 10's or simple lists but I'm desperate for cop/pastes at the moment)

Tommy H's
