How do I tweak clothing?

I recently downloaded a couple of vanity mods, hoping to use them all together. I chose KD Circlets, KD Spectacles and a capes mod. However when I tried to equip them all, they all use the same slots, the best I managed was wearing a circlet and a cape. I then promptly downloaded TES construction set to try and resolve the problem myself, and opened each individual esp, and started fiddling. Initially I assigned the items I wanted to use no slots. After booting the game, I found this made the items invisible while equipped, I then tried using other slots, but the same happened while trying to use tail, amulet, shield and torch. I know I'm missing something obvious, but I've done a quick search of the forums and googled the issue, but to no avail. Hense I turn to this community. If any has any hints or tips they could offer I'd be very appreciative.

Basically, anything which is visible has to be equipped to one of the slots. Head to head, Hair to hair, Tail to tail, Body to body, Ring to ring. Anything placed in the hair slot would replace your hair, anything placed in the head slot would replace your head. Additionally, anything placed in a ring or amulet slot can become hidden because of worn armor, gloves, or clothing due to a CS setting on those items. There really isn't any viable solution to have multiple special items since they all must be tied to a slot that isn't used by something more important (like head, hair, body, hands). All the slots are hard coded, so you can't set them to equip somewhere else. The only real alternative if you "must" have two of those items worn would be to add them to the same .nif and make them a single item equipped to a single slot. This would however require some ability with modeling programs, knowledge of how nifs are setup, and force you to wear wither both or neither.

Thanks for the advice, guess I'd better get researching how to edit .nif files. Seems like the obvious solution. Merging the goggles and headband into one head item seems like the way forward, using the tail slot (as not to remove the hair of the player), and then keeping the cape as an amulet.

I remember I've used the shield slot for the circlets and it worked fine for me, although if you need to equip a shield or a 2h weapon, such as a claymore or a warhammer, they will be obviously unequipped.
