3DS Max and Nif

Hi, I am trying to edit a mod to combine the mesh in it with another mod for personal use. However whilst I can import it into 3DS max fine, however I cannot get the file to work in fallout new vegas afterward. It comes up with the missing item symbol. I believe it's something to do with the textures, so does anyone know of a tutorial showing how to export into nif and then the game from 3ds max, of could tell me themselves?

The name is miss spelled for the model inside the .esm or .esp . That or the mesh isn't installed in the correct place.

If there was something wrong with the mesh it would crash, not be rendered, or stretch out infinity.

Anything besides that you would have to ask the folks that are actually using 3D Studio max.

There is a forum here on Nexus for that kind of thing, but I think more people use Blender for one reason or the other.
