Changing the default sound level of a music file

I was wondering if there's a program I can use to change the default sound level of an mp3 file. I've been downloading some live performances from youtube and converting them to mp3. While I need to turn the volume up for some songs, I have to turn it down for others. It's a pain having to do this every time and I can't use shuffle without risking being blasted out of my chair.

So I want to change the sound level of my music files so I don't have to do that anymore. How can I do this?

Thanks ;)

I don't think volume is controlled as part of the MP3, but rather you would have to find some way to amplify the existing audio of the file. The solution might be to start with a louder file before converting it. You might even want to try asking some of the peopel who make media player programs to include a file based automatic volume control, since there might be people out there that would find something like that useful.
