miranshortcake
So... On my current playthough of New Vegas, with around 140ish hours so far... I was using a custom face / race for the player character that I'd made for a mod I am working on.The gaming laptop I was playing on finally died (GFX card failure) after 3 year of use (can probably replace it later) and I managed to back up my save files for all of my games.Without thinking about it, I neglected to back up my mods as I figured I could just re-download them off of Nexus...Well, the .esp which contained my custom face/race is not on Nexus and now whenever I try to load up my save game on my new computer, it CTDs immediately. Am I able to change my character's race without actually getting into the game so the save no longer depends on this missing .esp?I can't remember the name/formid I gave to this race either, so just recreating it might not be possible... Stupid, I know, but I wasn't expecting my computer to die.
SariDecember
You could try it via FacegenExchange. It's available on the nexus and let's you transfer your FaceGen settings from one savegame's character to another. Download FaceGen Exchange, create a new game with a vanilla character and transfer this one to your 140h-savegame as described in facegen's readme. Just a guess but it could work! Good luck! SariDecember
Hm damn, that's what I've guessed! There's one thing you could try. I've heard about facegen exchange, that the characters of the two savegames you transfer between have to be the same race. In case you still remember the name of your former custom characters race, you could try to create a new esp in GECK that adds the race with the same name as before. If this race uses different bodymeshes and face-/bodytextures it doesn't matter how the textures look like, as long as they are found under the appropriate names while loading up!? Just make sure the esp name and the race name are the same as before!
rickerhk
The trouble is, the race needs to have the same formID that is in the save game, and I don't know of any way that you are going to extract that. AFAIK, the FaceGen program only pulls the face values. If the player race is missing, it's instant CTD. In general, If an actor's race is missing, it's CTD when you load into their cell. miranshortcake
Well thanks for the help!I ended up just making an .esp with a bunch of new races with names that I thought I might've given my custom race. And I happened to have guessed right on one of them. :)So I changed myself back to a plain ol' Caucasian and made a new save. Now I have no problem loading it without any mods. Gonna have to grab a few mods off Nexus now. /close :)
