Commander19
This is a short preview of The Lone Soldier Chapter 2: Rolling Thunder. I am intending on releasing the full chapter some time next week, though that is subject to change. If enough people like this, I may go ahead and release the rest of Chapter 2 earlier :D==========================================================================================Chapter 2: Rolling Thunder The next morning, the patron awakened to a rather dark atmosphere within the Dragoon City's Command Center. As the patron walked into the central hub, he noticed Gallows barking orders into his radio, coordinating troop activity/movement, supplies etc. Gallows glanced slightly to the left and noticed Chad standing in the hall doorway. “Hey, glad to see you're awake, how are you feeling.” “I'm fine, you on the other hand sound like you're in distress.” said Chad in a low tone voice. “That's due to the fact that we are in distress, those troops we saw the other day at the Northern Barrier were Takoman Mercenaries, our main enemy.” Gallows stopped talking as he noticed the puzzled look on Chad's face. “Oh, I'm terribly sorry, I forgot, you don't even know who the Takoman Mercenaries are or what's going on for that matter.” Gallows pointed over to a nearby computer. “Over there is a computer, it contains information on the entire history of Dragoon City, the Takoman Mercenaries, and our whole organizations history.” said Gallows. Chad nodded and walked over to the metal desk and sat down on the rolling chair that was pushed under the desk in the opening. As he sat down, he examined the desk, he noticed the desk was very sturdy, with a matte black finish and the top portion of the desk, in which the computer sat upon was made of pure oak wood. Gallows noticed Chad had a puzzled look on his face and realized he didn't know how to use a computer. “Diane show this gentleman how to use this computer, would you please?” “Certainly, I will get right on it.” said Diane hastily. Diane began teaching Chad the basics of how to use the computer. “My apologies for you having to go through all this trouble of teaching me how to use this computer, it's been many years since I've even seen one.” said Chad in an apologetic voice. “No need to apologize, based on your dossier, the events you have been through in recent years, I'm surprised you're still alive.” said Diane. “What do you mean, my dossier?” asked Chad cautiously. “I have a dossier?!” “Well, believe it or not, and don't take this offensively, Gallows went through some of your belongings while you were sleeping, to see if we could get an idea of what organization you were employed by, since you mentioned to Gallows you lost your squad, when going through your army green ammunition case, he found your patches and uniforms with insignias on them, insignias I've not seen before. We cross referenced them, only to discover that you're part of the Barracuda Marshals. You didn't hear this from me.” said Diane, who left hastily and returned to her duties. Chad sat silently for a minute then went on to read the history of Dragoon City. About two hours later in Chad's room... “Hey, buddy, I need you to meet me in the central hub, I have a mission for your.” said Gallows over the intercom. Chad began making his way to the central hub and as he walked in, he noticed things were significantly calmer. “Hey, how's it going, sit down. I'll brief you on your mission.” Chad sat down on the chair near the tac-map. “I didn't want to throw you to the hounds on your first day, that's why I didn't ask you to anything earlier, in case you were wondering... anyway.” Chad watched Gallows using the computer as images of a camp began to display on rather large projection screens. “I summoned you here because we have a bit of a problem, a bit of a big f***ing problem.” “What's the situation, and how can I help?” asked Chad. “The images you see here are photos of a remote Takoman Camp that our scouts discovered about a half hour ago. You might be thinking, “So, there is just a bunch of tents and small storage buildings, it'll be easy to eliminate.” Well, if you are, you're wrong, according to scouts the only way to reach this camp is by bypassing a heavily fortified wall with a magnetically sealed gate, the rest of the area is surrounded by mountains.” “Let me guess, you want me to destroy the camp?” said Chad in a confident voice. “Absolutely not! Our scouts also discovered that there is a database there with Intel reports, supply routes, and other useful information that would be invaluable to our cause. I want you to gear up and infiltrate on foot and download the files onto this E-SSD. Don't alert any Takoman Mercenaries and don't damage the E-SSD, it's not cheap whatsoever, can I entrust you with this assignment?” asked Gallows in a hesitant voice. To be continued...
