METAo0oLURGIST
This may already have been covered. Hard to search for, but if that's so, just chastise me and I will try to post under the relevant thread. But here's what I'm thinking.FNV does have great music, but it's just enough to piss you off. A tiny morsel, and back to Mr. New Vegas droning on and on repeatedly. So, I do think FNV should receive a good music mod...... but what music to use?Obviously, making a user-filled mod with NO tracks might be superior; it avoids any questions of legal usage or public domain, that is then the problem of the user. Also, it would find more use to more people without pre-ordained track listing. However- as my talent in modding is lacking to the point where it's actually funny to consider trying to make a mod like this... laughable, really....so I'd rather focus on what tracks WOULD go into a pre-chosen and 'theme correct' tracklist. I contend, and I expect people to agree and disagree (esp. disagree or what's the point?) that even though it's the 50's that are the main theme of the Fallout universe, NEW VEGAS, on the other hand, in it's ruins and beauty, exemplifies the 1960's culture, esp. of Paradise, or 'The Strip.' (Not the metro city of LV, which is actually boring) I mean, the Tops is the Sands, that much is obvious..... dean martin and the rat pack at The Sands? JFK used to visit the Sands in the early 60s. See, I think Vegas would have been awesome in the 50's. Problem is, it wasn't....... .....Vegas. Not exactly. It was still a wild west cowboy vice town for mining and damn workers. I wasn't the place the mob made it into later.... For that reason I think that the 'correct' music for Fallout: New Vegas, is Big Band and such from the SIXTIES, the early 60s especially, and NOT the Big Band of the 50s. I think if you appreciate the beauty of the FNV strip you'll agree. So, that all being said, here are my initial suggestions. Feel free to add suggested tracks, argue with other's selections, and comment on the mod idea itself.I starred the really good ones. 'The Stroll' - The Diamonds'Rags to Riches' - Tony Bennet (IMHO, this is the REAL las vegas theme song, not the others. it evokes giant fountains and great fortune)'Only You' - The Platters*'All in a Night's Work' - Dean Martin'We'll Meet Again' - Benny Goodman (the best version is w/ brassy female singer, no idea who)'Rock 'N' Roll Dance' - Lloyd Price'Painted Rythm' - Stan Kenton*'Forgive me, Clawdy' - Lloyd Price*'Stagger Lee' - Dion'Remember You're Mine' - Pat Boone*'Break it to Me Gently' - Brenda Lee*'Twilight Time' - The Platters*'Since I First Met You' - The Robins'Mama Told Me Not to Come' - P. J. Proby (this is the only version acceptable, tom jones is too modern and the 3 dog night version has been overexposed)*'Zing Went the Strings of My Heart' - The Coasters Most of the above you can find on Grooveshark (I can post that right?) so go check it out. I would call this collection "Only the Best" (of course I would). I can't help but think at least one person would agree. I HATE modern Las Vegas. I'd rather play bittersweet symphony by the verve and carpet bomb the strip from one end to the other than visit- But ol' Howard had a point. There really was something to the place, way back when. The world grew up, I guess. I'm really excited to see the suggestions and debates. Well, people? Edited August 14, 2011 by METAo0oLURGIST
AveTruetoCaesar
You should open you mind to some more music that fits. I use Swing, Rockabilly, R&B, Bebop, Cool Jazz, Merseybeat, Doo Wop, and Surf on my Radio New Vegas. I don't even discriminate against era. I have a lot of Rockabilly and Swing revival on my playlist.
METAo0oLURGIST
You should open you mind to some more music that fits. I use Swing, Rockabilly, R&B, Bebop, Cool Jazz, Merseybeat, Doo Wop, and Surf on my Radio New Vegas. I don't even discriminate against era. I have a lot of Rockabilly and Swing revival on my playlist. Anything that can nestle inconspicuously in a FNV playlist and come sweeping in like a musical and out innocuously, then I'm for it. I'm open on era, but only if the *sound* fits within a quasi-inspired historical sphere of a certain period. That persisted, or was at least visited upon continuously without revolution of style or construction for decades. So the music, I feel must fit what the world feels like. Obviously, depending on performer, species of music, style, era, and taste, we could be talking 1934-NOW easily if we consider ALL music. But please, pick specific tracks from a few of those artists that reflect your own, "Best Of - Mojave Wastes" playlist. I'm saying get choosy with the Hi-Def sound and pick your favorites that you think would fit into the existing tracks, or the fuller 'umbrella' it entails. Vegas and the very late 50's (vegas started) to fairly early 1960s I think is entailed in FNV already, and obviously music is touched upon by the game many ways. The tracks on the radio, the only portable or, obnoxiously, untuneable unmovable boxes to hear music on, are conspicously bare bones. I don't know usage rights and what on any music, that's why I thought a mod to drop in whatever but with no provided tracks would be awesome to also have a recommended "if you can find it: try these" playlist favored or posted by others. I just think if a few people seriously worked at it in casual leisure, a few tastes around the whole spiral, within tight period-istic-style constraints, that are not 'disjointed,' would work out a core bane of music or large tree of related artists and tracks that would get anyone interested immediately on track or closer to what they wanted. Then the assumption (and heavily implied mandate) is that the then user would fill their FNV radio library with tracks they acquired LEGALLY. Then the mod could bypass the issue entirely, not distributing music but rather scripts; and it would be a non-issue. But my real question, is how do I get my Scripting skill above 75 for the mod check? In other words, jjf I dare ask, how hard am I going to have to work to figure out how to script a music file drop in mod for FNV? Is it all that hard to look up and figure out? I'm really, just not that informed, I pick up what I hear about, but don't really always know where to look.
AveTruetoCaesar
On the Topic of creating it, this is a turorial that should help you out on creating your own stationhttp://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/274194-tutorial-how-to-create-a-new-radio-station/ On the music itself, a good modern band is The Brian Setzer Orchestra. The Dirty Boogie And some other assorted Swing Revival stuff As well, Brian setzers first band, The Stray Cats, where an 80's Rockabilly Revival act. They have a real Greaser sound that would fit well with the Kings Stray Cat Strut You might not be looking for this, but the Instrumental Rock band The Shadows have a really deserty sound to them.FBIApache Leslie Gore of course There's a lot more stuff, this is what I'll share for now.
