Restoring Original Content after Modification

Lets say I changed an NPC or an item or anything really in an ESM ESP file. Is there a way to remove the modified version and just restore it to the way the master file says the item/npc/quest says it should be without going back and manually typing the original info in there?

Example: I changed some dialog for a quest NPC that I've decided I want back to the original version. I've also changed other NPCs and I'd like their dialog to stay the way it is. Is there a way I can just restore one NPCs dialog without messing up everything else?

Seems like there is something when you go into the details menu of an esm file, and I've figured out that delete "ignores" the entry, but then there is no dialog/item/whatever there at all. I assumed that the delete field would remove the change and restore the original version of the object, but I've hit pretty much every single key combination on the keyboard and can't figure out how to delete an entry off that page. I also couldn't find anything about it on the wiki.

If anyone knows of a way to do this or has an idea for another workaround that would be great. Thanks.

Edit: Meant ESP, got the answer anyway though. Thanks.

Are you using GECK or FNVEdit? If you're using GECK, then it's impossible to edit an ESM directly. It'll make you save the changes in an ESP file, which is what loads in the game and tells it to ignore the ESM records. To remove it if that's the way you made you edit, then just delete the ESP file and you're good to go. If you used FNVEdit to make the changes, and did in fact save them in the ESM file, then your only chance to restore them is to tell steam to verify all your files, which will make it redownload everything and fix your changes.

Whoops I did mean ESP. That's pretty weird that you can't restore changes in GECK, but FNVEdit seems to have what I need. I was just changing something in my mod and decided I didn't want it changed anymore, so deleting the whole thing wasn't going to happen. Thanks everyone. Edited by psychomedic
