Fallout: New Vegas Crashes when loading a new area.

Hey guys.

So for me, F:NV has been crashing quite a bit lately, generally when loading a new area.

For example, I had a crash when exiting Vault 34, and another when fast travelling from Gun Runners to Vault 22.

Less commonly, the game will also crash during a fight.

My laptop is an ASUS G73jh, it runs below 75 while in game, and I have an i7 and an ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB card.

Here is the mod list:

[X] FalloutNV.esm

[X] IWR.esm

[X] FNVToolkit.esm

[X] CINEMATECH.esm

[X] NSkies URWLified.esm

[X] Weapon Mod Expansion.esm

[X] ELECTRO-CITY - CompletedWorkorders.esm

[X] ELECTRO-CITY - Highways and Byways.esm

[X] DFB - Random Encounters.esm

[X] DarNifiedUINV.esp

[X] OFT_Base.esp

[X] OFT_Base_Interiors.esp

[X] The Mod Configuration Menu.esp

[X] PerkEveryLevel.esp

[X] populatedcasino.esp

[X] Sprint Mod.esp

[X] Sorter - Combined.esp

[X] GrenadeHotkey.esp

[X] Weapon Mod Expansion.esp

[X] WME - Named & Sorted.esp

[X] WME - Arenovalis.esp

[X] EVE FNV.esp

[X] WMEVE.esp

[X] ELECTRO-CITY - Inventory Sorters Compatibility Patch - RegularCATEYEvalue.esp

[X] URWLNV.esp

[X] DYNAVISION 2 - Dynamic Lens Effect.esp

[X] ELECTRO-CITY - Imaginator.esp

Thanks a ton for any help!

Howdy, glad to help

Q-1 How much ram do you have?

Q-2 Open your game and begin playing. Go for a few minutes until you think its about ready to crash. Then hit alt-tab to go to the desktop. Open your task manager and look to see how much ram your game is currently taking up.

it could be anywhere between 800megs to 1800. how much is is showing?

Q-3 are you using nvse, or any mods that require nvse?

Thanks for the reply.

My laptop runs with 6 gbs of ram.

Going to the task manager, fallout is using about 900mbs right around a crash point.

And yeah I use NVSE and mods that require it.

Thanks once again.

well that eliminates that.

Fallout new vegas will only allow up to 2 gigs of ram to be used for playing the game regardless of how much you actually have. On the off chance that you were hitting that two gig limit, i was gonna suggest the 4gb loader for nvse. but that appears not to be the case.

If the crash happens at the same place(s) every time, then it tends to be a mod/load order issue. if it happens at random occurences while playing, it tends to be a preformance issue.

you could try to use the 4gb loader, which works great even if you dont need it, but it does override files.

If you try using it, install it first here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35262

then install the 4gb alternate loader for nvse. to get it go to nvse website below and scroll down to the bottom where it says alternate loader.

http://nvse.silverlock.org/

Make sure you run using alternate loader.

Also you can try installing the configator here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40442

it has settings in it that can improve preformance

some hail by ccmechanic2's gamestabilizer, but with some weird side effects : http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41745

Thanks for the help again. The 4gb loader doesnt seem to help as much, however after killing some guy and using a chainsaw on the dead body, causing it to gib and explode, my game crashed. I think it may have something to do with the gore mod. (even though those are just textures)

The problem is EVE NV.esp, is incompatible with the community bugfix compilation patch. turn off the compilation bug fix patch because 1. it is incompatible with many mods and will cause hidden if not obvious conflicts like the gibing explosion, and 2. the things it attempts to "fix" have been fixed largely in patch 1.4 so really it is trying to fix things from a previous patch, which if you understand the gamebryo engine just means its not working, plain and simple.

Also i would move EVE down to the bottom of your load order, because the mod is designed to override the effects of all added weapons and this way it can do just that and eliminate conflicts. Also on the WME homepage the author has included a patch for EVE, it is called the WMEVE.esp patch. Go download that and load it after EVE. Should fix all your problems.

Installed all that you mentioned and the gib problem seems to be no more. However, the game crashed on fast travel yet again. Thanks a ton for the advice though, fixed half my problems.

Any other ideas? I edited the first post to reflect the new load order.

Does it crash EVERY time you fast travel? Or just some of the time? I don't use many of the mods you are using so I don't specifically know where they should go in the load order but this should help. Just install it into the fallout New Vegas Data folder like you would any other mod, and then double click the "BOSS.exe" that you just placed in the data folder. It will run and open a web page. At this point you can close the web page and your load order should be correct now. Once you do this come back and post your load order again.

I will go from what BOSS says..

Downloaded and used BOSS, and edited the first post to reflect the new load order.

I think I have figured out how to replicate the crash. I believe I can crash the game after spending a while in a certain area of the map, walking around and exploring the area. The game will then crash if I fast travel to an altogether area of the game. For example, after walking around NCR Station Charlie, I fast travelled to Fiend territory near New Vegas. The game crashed.

Also, the game does not crash on every fast travel. It will usually go down after 2-3 fast travels to different areas. If I spawn at NCR Ranger Station Charlie and immediatly fast travel to Fiend territory, no crash would occur.

I don't see anything with that load order that could be causing a problem.. Anyways I use about double the amount of mods you are using, and I get a crash every now and then too, so with fallout new vegas and mods its really just part of the game.. Hell it even crashes often in a vanilla game.. I am not saying there is no solution, just I don't know, and sometimes you have to live with a few minor problems.. Honestly if you aren't crashing every other time you fast travel I wouldn't worry about it too much. But with that said you may want to start a new game and see if that fixes it, as sometimes saves get a bit corrupted and you cannot fix them.
