Computer slow down every 5-10 mins...

I've recently been adding mods to Oblivion and I've come across an annoying hiccup.

 

When starting the game and playing in any area (inside, outside, inventory screen, etc) a mod(s) slows down the game and my computer to an unplayable frame rate. Even the sound slows down and starts to crackle and I think it just slows down my whole computer. However it stops after a few minutes.

 

This keeps happening every 5-10 minutes or so.

 

To save a bit of time, has anyone else had this problem or do you know what mod(s) could possibly be causing this problem?

It may not be a mod or even the game at all. Anything that takes cpu cycles will slow it down. That includes any background programs that are running. It sounds to me like every so often some background program is accessing the internet. This could be a Messaging program checking for new messages, a program trying to update itself and not making a connection - HP printers are bad about this - HP changed the site where the updates are located and the update program will keep trying at ten minute intervals. :facepalm: How often do you think your printer needs to be updated? and why does every programmer seem to think his pet program absolutely must stay in memory all of the time when it is used once a month or less? (TomTom, HP, various update schedulars and many more) Some AntiViruses check for updates every so often also. And some will check every file every time it is read from the disk or written to the disk.

 

Depending on the settings, the windows indexing program can decide your Hard drive needs indexing or defraging. :confused:

 

And viruses are constantly calling out to push spam from your computer or to send your financial data or password info to the lowlifes who infect computers. :rolleyes:

To make things a bit simpler, I found a program which temporarily stops any unnecessary processes whilst playing a game and brings them back once I've finished. I don't have many programs which want to update so I don't think that was the problem, but it has freed up some ram.

I think I found a potential solution. I had Streamline 2.1 and 3.0 on at the same time. After taking down streamline 2.1 and getting that program, the game now has a consistent frame rate.
