Object editing is just annoying because 1 false move can RUIN your entire project

Object placement is quite reversible and much less likely to ruin your mod than mesh problems, lag, scripting, or broken quest lines. Let's suppose you goof and create a giant tear in the floor or wall. If it is too late to use CTRL - Z, and the cell is not using snap-to-grid, then you just modclean out that one edit to make the placement of that object revert to vanilla Oblivion. But some of these other types of Oblivion problems can cause the game to crash constantly or randomly and the cause can be very difficult to diagnose. With object placement problems, it is very concrete. You just look at the objects and see if they are where they belong. No mystery and no guess-work. No fear that your game is going to crash because you missed one little detail.
