Cannot add modded items to NPCs

How do I give NPCs that I created in the GECK items from other plugins? Do I have to give them the item from within the GECK?

Because that's what I've been doing and it does not work at all.whenever I give them items in the GECK, i go to the muddy rudder (where they are) and in place of the modded items, they have... wait for it.. each other.

Seriously.

I traded with one to see if maybe he wasn't equipping it for some reason, and he had two people called "Ninja". I cocked my head slightly, because that's the name of one of the other people. I took it off of him, tried equipping it, then I wanted to see what it looked like on the ground so I dropped it. I looked around for a few seconds, wondering where it went, looking for meshing mesh sign maybe, and then i move to my left, and I go slower, like I'm walking into someone, so I turn, and there's one of the NPCs! i think "what's he doing over here?" so i look at his usual place, and he's there too, then i realize that i just picked up and dropped a NPC. i seriously do not know what is going on here, and it's making me mad since I'm supposed to have a picture of them by tomorrow, and that is not going to happen.

Do i have to give them the modded item with trade? (I'm trying to make s&cc people) I just don't know what to do. Someone please help!

OK, part of what you said made no sense to Me, BUT form what you said about the weapon it sounds like the game dose not see the Mesh and/or textures, and the biggest reason for that I can think of is you did not install and/or activate "ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated!", you need it if you use a mod the adds Mesh and/or Textures! The only other reason I can think of is you moved the Mesh and Textures to a different folder and the mod can't find them! Also if the weapon uses ammo (like a gun, RPG, ect) you need to put some on the NPC! As for picking up a NPC, I have no idea on that 1!

dude. the items are NOT IN THE INVENTORY. They are replaced by another NPC. For example, one of them, instead of having a modded jacket and a modded hat, he has two of the other Npcs. he isn't wearing them, they're just... there. did you even read the post?

Yes I did, 3 times before the first post, did you, at no point do you say they do not have the items!

And yes, you can just put them in there inventory or go into Items\LeveledItems, make a list of what at what level and put that in, but I assumed that is not the problem and just moved passed it! Lets go over a few simple ones that you could be missing, are you shore you put it on the right NPC, did you remember to save after editing in the G.E.C.K. (I did that 1 a few time when tweaking a mod), did you remember to tern on all the mods that are needed, when you load the G.E.C.K. and pick what you wont to load do you remember to highlight the 1 you wont to save to and click on "Set as Active File"!

uhm... yes, it does say that.

"In place of the modded items, they have each other"

that means instead of the stuff they have other npcs.

yes, yes, and yes.

i just fixed it by giving them the stuff by trading them with sharing and caring companions

In order to add modded items to an actor in a plugin file (as opposed to in the save, as you've done), you need to set your plugin file to have the other plugin file in its list of master files.

In order to do this, you first need to change the plugin file containing the items into a master file. You can do this by using FO3Edit to alter the file's header. Make sure not to change the file extension - the name must stay the same.

Once you've done this, load up your plugin file and this master file, add the items where you want them, and save. After you're done making changes, you should change the master file back into a plugin file, but make sure it's a master file whenever you're editing your plugin file or the connection will be broken.
