silencer shifts forward on reload?

Hello, First attempt at modding in a Fallout environment.

I'm attempting to add a Silencer to the Browning Auto 5 from Ahzteks weapon Overhaul {thanks for a fantastic mod} for my own in-game use, regardless contemporary reality.

Using NifSkope I first attempted to use two silencers from the Remington to portray a silencer about the same length as the synthetic short barrel's barrel. This resulted in the second silencer, being moved out in front of the first when the gun is first fired. The first stayed in place.

I hoped that if I used a larger single silencer instead of the two I could avoid whatever was causing it, I chose to replace it with the sniper silencer, and now the same thing happens during the reload animation.

So is it being triggered the animations perhaps?

I ran the a single silencer from the Remington for a while, but wanted to have something a little longer for the Auto 5, point is; the single silencer from the Remington functioned with no mishap? Is there an area it must stay in to not be affected by the animation?

After reload

Any idea's or thoughts would be welcome.

Check the blocknames? I'd imagine you haven't fixed them after copy-pasting.

I'm sensing that on account of my not understanding what you mean likely indicates that you are absolutely correct. =)

Thank you for the quick response.

I've tried looking for examples of what your talking about and the closest I've come is Linking Method 2: Adding taken from

http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Making_New_Armor_Using_NifSkope#STEP_5:_Linking_the_pauldrons_to_the_skeleton

this also made no sense, as I was unable to add an empty link under array no matter what I tried.

Incidentally:

There is a yellow "wire-frame" around the shotgun, and a blue "wire-frame" around the silencer.

When I right click on the copied in child node containing the silencer, and then right click and select apply, the blue "wire-frame" from around the silence jumps back and centres on the firearm, and the silencer stays in place (in nifskope). This results in less displacement of the silencer when the reload animation is utilized in game, which leads me to believe these blue and yellow wire-frames represent containers for the individual objects and that if I could somehow place the blue frame "just so" the silencer wouldn't move at all?

However, assuming any of this makes sense to you, and all I must do is rename something, I believe I like your plan much better than any of the aforementioned wizardry. Would you share more details about your approach?

I'm using nifskope 1.0.22 if it matters.

Thank you!

The wireframes are usually collision meshes. I don't know why the silencer would have its own TBH, and the colour usually denotes the collision type- with yellow being weapon. I think purple's misc item or ground? If you copied that from another weapon it's a bit weird.

What I meant by blocknames was if open the file and browse through the trees to your silencer. you'll see the NiNode/NiTriStrips will have a name. When you copy-paste content into a nif it usually gets randomly renamed to something from the string list in that nif (because the block has a field on it saying 'This has name #7' and #7 in the old nif's string list and new nif's one are different).

If the block is jumping around on fire or reload I'd imagine it's probably going to be something like '##Slide' or '##Trigger', as these are special blocknames referred to in the weapon animations. Try renaming them to Silencer, Silencer:0 or similar- just something that approximates the existing naming system.

yesyesyes!

That was exactly it, one if the NiTri strips was named ##latch and another ##stalk. And the silencer stays put on reload. Thanks mate!

Ahztec has all of his silencers in a separate files unattached to the weapons, so it was originally it's own nif.
