taxes0311
I have just purchased FNV and was more the pissed that it does not work, like so many others it CTD after intro movie. I have searched the forums for fixs and I have tried each one in turn. I was hoping there was something missed or a new solution for this. I played this game a ton on a friends pc and snagged the mods here to place in his pc, great stuff and made the game fun as hell. I"m posting the info i have that hopefully will help. Acer Aspire 7741Intel Core i5 CPU M [email protected]4.00 GB (3.86 GB usable) RamWin 7 Home Premium (Service pack 1) 64bit OSAMD Radeon HD 6500M After Installation of Fallout New Vegas I would start up the game via Steam and select a New game. After the Intro movie plays and it goes to the loading screen with the roulette you see one background picture and before it can change the game crashes to desktop saying "Falloutnv has stopped working". I have removed all components of the game using such programs as CCleaner and Tubeup Utilities to ensure complete removal of the game. Upon re-installing the game the very same thing happens. My video card is up to date with its programing. When I go through the Steam client and validate the program it comes back with one file missing, reacquires it and then poof, the game crashes at the same spot each time. THEN when I go back and run the validation of the game it says the same thing, one file missing. The file that updates everytime is (InstallScript.vdf)
cptcairney
Are you putting they mods in with it also ? you do know the load order needs to be correct for anything to work.Your load order would help :)

This is just the actual game install from dvd, with the update via steam. NOT even a single mod yet, which is all the worse if you ask me.
cptcairney
So its crashing just as the game starts up ? could be a problem with the menu files, try installing a mod like darnified hud, don't know if this gives all menu files but I'm sure it does, this may solve your problem. Also searched your graphics card, ATI by the way :), and didn't find any problems with the card relating to game compatibility, a few Nivdia cards have some problems.Just read up on a topic there regarding a similar issue, guy was also missing installscript.vdf and suffering crashes, something was mentioned about workstation IGP's (GPU) being incompatible with the game, these are cards with the m in there name, if this s true I don't know but I cant wonder why :/ Here is the link to that forum ;)Forum Link
taxes0311
installscript.vdf is not missing from the program, it is there however it does not validate when using steams program, so it downloads it again. I even went and found installscript.vdf online and downloaded it from a 3rd party, however this did not change a thing, I even looked at it via editor, every text is the same line per line. Some fixs wish you to edit the FalloutNV.ini file however this can not be found in the program however a search for it brings it up but uneditable. cptcairney
The FalloutNV.ini should be editable, have you got full administrative rights ? UAC is a real pain in the ass :) Try moving the FalloutNV.ini from its current location and placing it on your desktop, edit it, then put it back. In case you were wondering where your FalloutNV.ini is it should be here: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV It isn't in your game directory. Another sad note is the fact I can hunt down and remove virus's on my PC at the registry level and I can't get this damn game to work. I've gone back and removed everything from this game and even discovered that Steam keeps info in another directory in C drive. SO with everything removed, Sound/Graphics/DirectX11/etc is all up to date, Hard drive and registry defragged, game installed once again and updated it still CTD at the same point. Steam never contacted me back after I sent the info and problem to them and I have just now sent info to Bethesda tech support. I hope this gets resolved by someone. Oh one reply I got from another web forum was to download and install a hacked copy of the game. They had the same problem and that's how they fixed it. I can understand why he did that however I don't need anymore headaches from a hacked copy............................................ but it is tempting
taxes0311
I would like to thank everyone, well one person for helping me with this problem. I've found the fix and it took too long to figure out. I added (d3d9_.dll) to the main FNV folder where the launchers are, I didn't however alter anything else like suggeted when using this method. FInally I'm playing. Thanks once again.
