Oblivion does not open after mod list install.

Hi,

This was my first attempt at modding a TES game, and I seem to have overdone it. I used balloffire's mod list and installed all the mods before actually opening the game. In retrospect, it does sound pretty stupid on my part, yes.

Anyways, I deleted all the conflicts that BOSS picked up and enabled all the mods in OMM. When I start the Oblivion client (whether through OBSE or not), a blank black window opens and instantly closes. The patcher opens just fine though. Task Manager does state that the black window is, in fact, Oblivion.exe as well.

I'm using the GOTY edition, so Oblivion is patched to 1.2-whatever-the-latest-patch-is.

Is there any way to figure out what is causing my Oblivion to not work without uninstalling everything and reinstalling it all over again. (It took like 5 hours of my day, I really wouldn't want to go through that again :().

Thanks for any help!

Just from a cursory look, several of the recommended mods on that list have been superceded by other mods--Quest Award Leveler by Auto Update Leveled Items and Spells (AULIAS), for example. And since the link to Deadly Reflex is dead on that list, which version did you use? Version 6 is still in beta, hence buggy. Streamline is controversial--which isn't to say you shouldn't use it; only be sure you want it and know exactly what it does (and doesn't do) before running it. Several of the mods require patches to use with others mods on that list, as well. I hope you checked through all the readmes to make sure you tweaked it to work well together. This especially and completely applies to FCOM.

My sugggestion, for what it's worth, is to uncheck all those mods, and see if you can still load Oblivion. If you can, then go through and carefully determine what you want from that list, and read the readmes to see what needs to be installed with anything else, and where the mod should go in your loading order.

And use Wrye Bash. OBMM is great for some things, but Wrye Bash is far more flexible as an ordering and loading tool, as well as one that can quickly identify certain problems and fix others.

Just some thoughts. Hope they help.

Thanks for the quick reply. After going through the list of mods, this is what the end result:

(WARNING: HUGE image file)

One of the biggest offenders seems to be FCOM (as you suspected), which is also one of the more significant mods that I would actually like to use. What can I do to fix those compatibility issues?

I tried starting a game, but it seems as though a lot of textures are missing, since a lot of the "custom races" show up as pitch black or not at all. Also, (and this might be because I was rushing through the settings and not really reading), a bit through the other prisoner's speech, I randomly die for no reason.

The last issue that seemed to arise once I loaded enough mods was that if I click Exit, Oblivion.exe stops responding and I have to close it through task manager. I'm not sure if this is from a specific mod or if it's a product of having too many mods.

I have Wrye Bash installed as well, but it's limited to 255 mods, while this list was somewhere around 350.

If this is too complicated to fix, I might just try my luck with Morroblivion instead.

I appreciate any further help.

Not exactly. Wrye Bash is telling you the limits Oblivion has: 255 mods. It's a hard limit, but there are ways around it. For example, the Bashed Patch can merge some mods you're running. And you can merge mods by hand. I don't recommend the second unless you absolutely know what you're doing, though the first is perfectly safe. You can read about it under the Wrye Bash help file, accessible through the utility.

If you're getting pitch black on some of the races, it's because they've not been installed correctly. As you've tried to load 350 mods, that may have something to do with it. Or it could be that master files required by those mods were never loaded. Again, check in Wrye Bash. If you've checked off one of those race mods, look to see that the color of the box alongside it is green. If its green, and you reduce your active file load to 255 and still have those black body parts, try reinstalling the meshes and textures for the mod. Make sure the mods also have no conflicts with anything else you're loading. If the checkbox isn't green, look in the file box to the right after clicking on the mod. It should show you the mod's masters, and one at least won't be in deep blue or green. That one's missing.

FCOM. I have read more problems of people trying to run this combo than any others. I've never used it myself as a result--I've just got Frans and MMM. My best suggestion here would be to do a search in the thread titles for FCOM, over in Bethsoft's official forums. The gurus hang around there, and they've got plenty of content to help people out.

Hi again,

So, I trimmed the mods I had installed. It loads fine now and everything. However, right from the start, I found a big problem. If you steal someone's clothes, they're completely naked. Frankly, I could do without the dicks in-game, so which of these mods is responsible for this? (I'm guessing it's the texture mod?)

Thanks for the help (again!).

On an unrelated note, I noticed you have MMM and Unique landscapes, but not the compatibility patches for the two.

For some reason Tesnexus won't load on my comp right now, but a search for Unique Landscapes or somewhere in the description for Unique Landscapes it should tell you where to get them.

Also, it's been awhile since I installed Mart's, but I don't think you should have increased spawn rates, reduced spawn rates and reduced reduced spawn rates running together. I could be wrong though.

Here's a recent topic with the exact same question.

Edit: Note: You may need to download a clothed version of your male body replacer.

I don't mean to be mean about it, but there really is no substitute for fully reading every readme/manual that comes with a mod, and following its instructions to the letter. You may want to check the long descriptions on TES Nexus as well, and keep an eye out for negative ratings--click on the number to read why. It doesn't necessarily mean that the mod is bad. It may just mean that there are conditions in which it doesn't function properly. It helps to know these in advance.

As noted above, you have the reduced and increased spawn rate child mods for MMM in your lineup. Plus the decreased ones are after your Bashed Patch. I'm betting BOSS put them there, right? But when BOSS drops mods there, it's because it doesn't know where they should go, and it's leaving their placement up to you. Now, choose either the increased spawns, the decreased spawns, or the very decreased spawns--just one, not all three. And put it among the MMM set you've got.

As for the naked guys, it does sound as though you installed the naked version of one of the male body mods. Take a look at its archive, read the readme, and see how you can install the underwear version.

Deadly Reflex 6: this is a beta. Again, it's in the readme, or on the mod's site.
