xachan86
Well, i have a strange problem to submit to the wiseness and experience of this forum users. My oblivion was running good, but i couldn't help to wonder what it would look like if i tried to tweak it a little. So i added mods after mods and everything was fine, well, at least i could solve the problems. That was before i stumbled upon the dev_akm wonderful page : http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/ So, I decided to push my Athlon 3500+ and my Nvidia GeForce 7800 Gt to their limits and install a whole lot more of things. As i didn't want to create problems between my mods, i followed dev_akm's steps. And now, Oblivion doesn't launch anymore ! I mean, the screen turns black, then i get the screen "Bethesda - a Zenimax blahblah" but before this even loads, i'm back to the desktop ! I'm using OBMM, Wrye Bash to manage my mods. I applied the latest official patch after installing SI and before installing any mod.I installed Qarl's Texture pack 3 + LOD replacements 2048 + Qarl's better tiling. I also installed AEVWD + it's illuminated version.I of course have installed OOO, MMM, Bob's armory, UOP and Warcry, along with the FCOM files that make them work together, as dev_akm pages shown. I respected all the installation steps and made the bashed patch accordingly. Then, I've installed heaps of other mods, cosmetic like Beautiful people, Natural faces, Female Eyecandy ; about weather and the world like AWS and Natural environments; Real lights, Illumination within revived and optimized, all the Unique Landscapes mods, Rhianna and Sonia companions, Ambient town sounds, Tamriel Travelers, Tamrielic ingredients (all with their compatibility patches), Treleth's pitchable tent, Get Wet, , quests like RS Kvatch + Knight of the white stallion + Tear of a fiend + blood & mud, Akaviri imports, Akaviri Kojima island, Clocks of Cyrodiil, All the Improved trees series, Bookjackets and better bottles, Alive waters, Improved soulgems, Crowded roads revamped, Imperial furniture, Exnem's reznod mannequin and a handful of armor and weapons mods. I know i will probably have to reinstall everything (it doesn't really matter and i'm finally just testing for my next rig which will be way more powerful than this one), but i'd like to know if anybody knows where this comes from and if there's a way to solve it without having to reinstall everything. Thanks in advance for your advice !
RedRocketTM
I use a whole bunch of mods myself, about 125 active one's, actually there are more than 250 mods alltogether in my data folder. ;) I use cosmetic mods that change all NPC's faces ingame to make them more pretty, I use cosmetic mods for my playerchars, lots of custom races, almost every single mod that adds a whole town, many many houses and buildings, in addition illumination within, natural weather, sunlit interiors and so on and so forth. ^^ The only thing that EVER broght me to the problem you describe here was using Natural interiors ESM (although I used the compatibillity esp for Natural weather...) I do use OBMM too, and for some esp's a tool that sets the internal version back to 1.0, as my game still runs on patch v1.1.5.11 Well I didn't find a way to solve that problem either. The consequece was not to use Natural Interiors, deactivating the ESM and ESP's. I'm sure that your problem depends on one of your mods. Try deactivating the one's you recently installed. That's all I can tell you. ^^" I do always create a backup of my actuall Oblivion folder, just for the case that something might happen. (One time some original textures were gone Oo) Then I just need to delete the actual one and backup the old one. ^^ Saves re-installing Oblivion all the time. (If I'd have to without my backup, I'd never get my patch back... Thanks to Bethesda only providing the new one's for download... :( ) Even after re-installing copying my backed-up folder above the just installed one make's my game the way it was before deinstallation. :)
Abramul
One piece of advice is to only enable a few mods before running Oblivion and seeing if they are working properly. This way, if a mod causes problems, you will have a good idea of which one it is.
xachan86
yeah, it's very true and i know i've been to hasty on that installation :) I should be much more careful on my next installation... In fact, i found the cause of Oblivion non-launching : Francesco's mods. I made a mistake, when i installed it, it asked me if i wanted to merge files so i would have only one optional esp. But wrye bash, and more precisely its bashed patch feature asked me to enable some esps that were not there because they were merged ! So, thanks to Francesco who thought about the possibility, i used his uninstall facilities for his mods and reinstalled them cleanly, not merging, and guess what ? It works ! :D But i've noticed another problem : when i'm out of a town (let's say, Imperial City), i have sometimes some graphical glitches that i haven't had before : like i "turn my head" and the big bridge's meshes all turn black. i turn my head again in the original position and bam! the meshes are back and alive! :) It's the same thing about some distant constructions, since i use AEVWD : some have black meshes, some just turn bright pink. So i think it's a mesh and texture problem, but does anyone know how to solve it ? I've already performed an archive invalidation with OBMM as some mods requested it, but it didn't change anything. Should i use the BSA alteration feature ?
RedRocketTM
I've never used the BSA alteration feauture, although OBMM told me that this would be better. ^^"I'm not feeling good changing original content... The problem you pointed out - I've had it before too. Bright pink, or better missing textures occured after installing a mod, but it shouldn't have been that way. try copying your data folder, re-installing Oblivion and then just place your data folder where the new is again, that helped for me.These graphical glitches... Well, for me they only occured when I was running my DVB-T sonftware on my 2nd screen while playing Oblivion on my main screen. So I suppose it happened because of too much graphical things. Are you running anything else besides Oblivion?
xachan86
I remember that once after installing the Parallax Cities Gigapack (that was before i used QTP3), some grounds turned bright pink, like for example the road when you exit the imperial city. I then, out of despair, used both Archiveinvalidation and BSA alteration and everything was just fine. Maybe i should give it a try, i've reinstalled Oblivion so many times already that one more time is nothing ! :D To answer your question, it depends, sometimes something is running in the background and sometimes not, but i still get those glitches, so i think it's not related, at least in my case... TheTerminator2004
If you haven't already, use OBMM's BSA patcher. That should fix the problems, at least with the pink meshes. If not, then chances are you installed one of your mods wrong, and didn't put the textures in the right place, or even forgot them completely. Try playing with only a few at a time, to see which ones are causing the problem.
FFixyeah
I actually have the same problem as yours, xa_chan, and it happened to me after installing the patch 1.2 I have lot of mods, no shivering isles It never happened until I install the patch, so maybe the patch is your problem too. **edit** Xa_chan, found out that my game crashing was caused by my mods. Try turning all your mods off and see if it starts.
