Porting companions

Ok..first off, this is strictly for my own personal use.

But i've been wondering is there a tutorial on how to port companions from NV to FO3 and vice versa? i've seen tutorials on how to port armors etc. I reckon with companions it'll be a tad more difficult. I've seen on guy did it with Jericho on TESNV, but i can't find it anymore.

Let's say i wanna bring Cass to FO3...or the Sydney comp mod to NV.Is it possible to do fro someone with limited scripting skills like me?hehe

Mucho gracias in advance.

Both Sydney and Cass are pretty complicated mods with a lot of game specific activity/dialogue, etc. It's not scripting that will slow you down but how much you know about the GECK, how it works and how much you know about companions and what makes them work. Sydney would be a serious undertaking that would require a lot of work to move over because so much of her activity is FO3 specific and all of that will cause errors if you try to change the master on her esp and call it done. You might talk to the modder that took Jessi over to NV and released her there to find out how long/how much work it took to do it. I personally wouldn't do it that way (a port) if I wanted Sydney there. I'd copy her face onto a new NPC and build a basic companion with something like this and then take some of my favorite dialogue over that wasn't FO3 specific. She can never really be Sydney there...there isn't a Citadel to study EW, the characters she interacts with aren't there, etc. You'd have to rebuild all of that with new NV characters and locations which would be a lot of work or cut it out anyway which is why I'd just go the new NPC route.

Thanks for the reply.

I knew it would require an essay to fully explain how to do this. Especially with companion like Sydney becuase , like you say, much of her activity is fo 3 based. Still, i'm curious on how to do these things. Much of the tutorials regarding porting stuff are about armors and weapons and stuff, which is not that difficult. I suspect that there are quite a few people, who, like me, really wanted to take their fav companions from CW to NV and vice versa...

I remember you did this whit Charon, yes? before you created Willow. Did you slapped Charon's face on some NV ghoul?

There's another way to take Sydney to NV..which is the requiem mod...But that mod got more bugs than a hornet's nest.

Again, thanks for the reply... i guess i'll try it the way you suggested and see what's come up.

Yes, with Charon I put his face on a new ghoul NPC and didn't rebuild much of him there; he's basically vanilla with a few extra lines and some extra idle chatter; nothing like his FO3 self...he never really fit in over there; he's really a DC kinda guy. I'm going to bring Willow over to FO3 and I'm starting over from scratch with her; mostly because she'll be quite different but also because I find it so tedious to go through the esp to catch all the game specific records that will cause errors. I'll probably cut some stuff out of the NV esp with TESsnip (you can't just change the master coming NV to FO3 and it's quite a good tool because you can be fairly precise in which records to copy; it's part of FOMM).

Re: RCFW

I hear it's pretty buggy, but a lot of players love it so it must not be too bad.

You mean you haven't tried RCFW? shame on thee! It's awsome mod, but it's a bit unstable like most middle east dictators. Lotsa people are already bringing Willow to the CW with that mod. The AI/pathfinding is pretty messed up though.

I'm thinking of doing waht you say, just slapped Sydney face on the NPC from that companion mod...but..it won't be the same as having the real thing,

btw..you've come a long way eh? from playing fo 3 on the x box just over a year ago, to creating one of the best companion mod out there! so i guess congratulation is in order.
