gothxtreme
Hello Everyone, I am needing a new pc really REALLY badly. I am looking to put it together piece by piece considering I am relying on family to put it together for me and we are not wealthy by any means. Anyway my grandfather has enough knowledge on how to put a pc together as well as experience but does not feel comfortable handling the motherboard, cpu etc. So he suggested I look into barebones kits and we could work from there. After speaking to my mother about it she has agreed to purchase me a barebones kit but my limit is 3 to 400 dollars (depending on our money situation when Xmas is around. I was hoping you the community could help me come up with a budget friendly barebones kit that I could purchase from a site (tigerdirect, newegg, etc) giving I do not have much knowledge on the various brands and whatnot. Now I am sure it goes without saying I am looking to purchase this pc setup for gaming. Thank you all for your time and responses
Dan3345
Wait why are you worried about handling the motherboard? I'm not trying to be condescending but really the worst thing that could go wrong (and is preventable) is a static shock to the board. Anyways I think newegg is your best bet. For $400 I don't really no what you could build that would be good for gaming.. have you considered HTPC? they are really small, but you can usually get the larger video cards into them if you buy the right size case. link There isn't really much power in these things, Im sorry to say if you want gaming you would need atleast another $100 for the bare minimum of components. I'm tired but later I could put together a build plan for you that would be cheaper.. I doubt I would be able to get it under $500.. Gaming computers even for slow ones are not inexpensive
gothxtreme
Yea I know what you mean >_< not looking for anything over the top though it would just be nice to get out of the dual core age lol as of right now I am running the AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core 2.70 GHz processor and I would just buy the processor but honestly I need a whole new rig. Everything is rather old besides the GPU and thats even a year or so old
Balagor
I am very happy with my AMD Phenom II 4 cores 3 Ghz. And as @Dan3345 says, there is absolutely nothing to be wooried about. CPU can only be installed in one direction, so can the RAM and the grafic card. The same can be said about all cables from the power supply. Most difficult (because they are small, and I´m old) are the front panel connectors. You will get a diagram with the motherboard on how to connect them. If connected wrong, it will not boot, but no damage is done.If you want to build a budget pc, I recommend that you do it from scratch.
Dan3345
Well if you install the CPU wrong and bend a pin its game over, but the cpu is marked and so is the socket for entry so if you pay attention that shouldn't be a worry either. AMD makes quad cores thar are actually quite powerful for gaming computer for about $100. Don't expect amazing multitasking but you will do great for gaming.
