arrows

hi, if you don't know the answer to this

please don't get pissy at me.

really think it through before you say anything.PLEASE!

here is my observation.

holding my blade shield, what is it made of?, in front of me I walk toward the NPC whom sends arrows my way.

when I go to the inventory view I have 3 or 4 arrows stuck through my shield?

shouldn't the arrows have bounced off, at most damaging the shield?

or am I asking too much?

I can see arrows punching through fur, leather, chainmail, maybe mithril shields and armors but that's it.

unless fired from a crossbow or a longbow at close range I don't perceive as to how arrows launched from a shortbow

from any distance can penetrate iron, steel.

what is ebony made out of, in the game?

isn't ebony wood?

is glass armor tempered?

why doesn't it shatter when struck by, say, a club or mace?

btw the mace in the game is not just a mace, it is a spiked mace.

a non-spiked mace is just an iron or steel ball on the end of a stick.

using a 100% chameleon ring(cheat) I came upon a brigand just standing there.

at point-blank range I sent a arrow into his eye.

it didn't go there, it went into his shoulder.

point-blank.

how is it that at a distance you can shoot someone in the head with an arrow and it sticks through their head, but not at point-blank?

how does a non-poisoned arrow, shot into the hand, kill a NPC?

they don't bleed out, and blood doe not soak readily into stone.

shouldn't blood stick around for about a week, unless disturbed in some way?

So all and all, your asking "why isn't the game more realistic in combat?"

People try their best to make things as real as they can with most things as mods. As for arrows going through shields, I do not believe that it's possible to add havok to wielded item to make them "bounce" off. Shields do get damaged as you use them, but slowly in my opinion. As for them shattering and being broken, I believe that it is too hard to establish a higher amount of damage to a wielded object when it is struck, but I could be wrong and could very well be done as a mod already. For not hitting something in the face at point blank, I really don't know how to explain why it does that other than the havok for NPC's might result from the whole body as a closer range rather than spread to hands/head/feet and whatnot from a further range. For killing someone while hitting then in the hand, It doesn't establish variants in damage from where you hit them, it just takes your damage from your arrow, bow, skills, attributes compared to their current health, but I think there are a few mods that do that establish more realistic damage.

I believe that is the reason for most of your questions, if I am wrong, then at least I tried

This is not counter strike. This is not halo. Shooting someone in the head does the same damage as in the toe, so what difference does it matter where the arrow appears to have landed? All thats important is that you HIT the guy. Same thing applied to you're shield, the arrow appears to be stuck in it but that doesn't mean you'll be anti-dexterous for life. In the elder scrolls world, ebony is a mineral mined from rock, not a wood. And that glass found in armor is a volcanic glass, malueable and stronger than normall glass.
