GECK items not showing up

Hey guys,

I am working on an overhaul of Silver Rush. I have taken out the Van Graff stuff and set up a club/casino look. I have a stage with dancers and a bar but cannot get either to show up in the game. I am not good with FNVEdit so maybe I can do something with that. I put the cell group at the bottom of the list in the FOMM TESSnip screen. Can anyone suggest why I cannot see these items in the mod? I just added another dancer but she is not showing up either. :(

A few things about the Silver Rush, maybe someone who is expert can shed some light on.

It already has two different versions: there is a before explosion version, and an after explosion version.

I haven't looked at the scripting but from what I saw in GECK I suspect old items get disabled when the explosion occurs (if it does) and new items such as turned over tables are enabled after the explosion.

Also, a lot of stuff in there is linked to various quests and scripts. Just off the top of my head:

-- Van Graffs Quest (Birds of a Feather)

-- Rose of Sharon Cassidy Personal Quest (Heartache by the Numbers)

-- Veronica's Personal Quest (I Could Make You Care, trigger for it at least)

-- Brotherhood of Steel (Tend to Your Business)

I think those are the quest names, anyhow, certainly the factions and NPCs are correct.

You haven't elaborated on what exactly you are doing, but this the nexus of a lot of quests. (Pardon the pun.)

Silver Rush has had crashing issues, an it hasn't been directly linked to a cause yet.

You should duplicate the cell an make a quarantined version, build an test that.

You could also get one of us to look at the file.

Duplicate cell, huh? I never thought of that. TYVM!!! If you want to look at the esp file, I will pm my e-mail. Thanks for the offer.

X markers, once it's placed in the world it's a refrence, You can name these, SrExplosionREF or whatever, then call that up in a script. Anything inside the cell can be set to disabled an linked to the x marker as it's parent to enable the X marker which enables it's children. You can also set refrences to do the opposite of the parent, though typically you see two X markers instead of one X marker doing all the on/off work, one X marker is on, an one marker is off, a script or quest script controls the X marker, an anything can be an activator. You can even draw primitive boxes in the GECK (those wierd looking squares). You could create a basement for Silver Rush. I would not edit that cell though, just to save trouble with issues. It might be better to duplicate or create a new cell that just has a door that is placed somewhere easy to get. For testing purposes, build the cell, and test out some crazy stuff in it, then find a place in the desert to place it after it's working well.

Drake,

Hi. I'm honored to have your input. I have stripped out most of the old Silver Rush stuff and am doing an overhaul. I took out the peeling wallpaper walls, Van Graff containers and furniture. I have placed a bar with stools at the end where the mannequins were and a stage at the opposite end (Gomorrah staging). I have placed two generic dancers on the stage along with tables and chairs in front. However, NONE of these are showing up except the chairs. I also have a roulette table, blackjack table with stools and a pool table. The pool table and blackjack tables show up fine but I cannot see the roulette table. If you want, I can send you the esp file to look over. I am grateful for any input from you guys as I am new to modding like this.

TYVM!!!!

@GrindedStone: Thanks for the explanation of X Markers! Suddenly a whole lot becomes clear. I think this is what they also did in the Vikki and Vance Casino IIRC to change it from abandoned to an active casino.

@Goliath63 : Yeah send it to me I'd be curious to take a 2nd closer look inside the Van Graffs I was always intrigued by how that whole explosion and interior redocoration thing worked. I'm fairly sure the quests I mentioned are all tied to the guards, Gloria and Jean-Baptiste, so I'm sure as long as they stay inside, nothing would be broken.

Also, definitely you should try out the cell isolation trick the other poster mentioned, I've heard that suggested before by other modders in similar contexts, not necessarily just the Silver Rush.

OOPS!!! AS I mentioned, I cleared out ALL of the Van Graff stuff. I went back in in the game with my PC and killed the whole Silver Rush crew too (I was hot for Cass. haha). So, they are no longer there.

  • 1 year later...

I must be an idiot. I used GEK for oblivion for years and made Lots of stuff. The GEK for Fallout new Vegas is kicking my ASS!. I can't get any of my edits to stick. Every time I build or edit something, it ends up as a world orphan or just NOT THERE. I have even tried manually saving a copy of my current edit after saving in the GEK, so that when it crashes on exit, I have a good save. But, nuttn. :wallbash:

Help!
