Garden of Eden Creation Kit has stopped working

Recently, I've installed version 1.4.0.518 of the G.E.C.K. and it does not seem to want to cooperate. My steam version of New Vegas is 1.4.0.525. The steam folder is in C:/games/steam/

The program will fail to launch with the error "Garden of Eden Creation Kit has stopped working"

I'm not certain what I am doing wrong. Advice?

Sorry, I suppose I need to be more specific.

I have version 1.4.0.518 of the G.E.C.K. and version 1.4.0.525 of the game. Are these not the most recent versions of both?

I do not believe this to be the cause of my issue. There must be another explanation for why the program will not execute properly.

I hate to ask, but are you saying you put the Geck files in C:/games/steam? If so, the Geck files need to go in C:/games/steam/<rest of path to fallout new vegas>/data

not quite, it should be in the same folder as the Data folder, not inside it

The error was fixed by uninstalling Fallout New Vegas by deleting local content from within Steam, then re-installing the game.

From this, I have to conclude that there was a registry conflict that wasn't allowing the G.E.C.K. to see the game properly.

Should this have been the problem, the G.E.C.K. would have failed on launch due to being unable to locate libvorbis.dll, which is specifically stated in the error message. As covered above, G.E.C.K. must be in the same folder as FalloutNV.exe, not the data folder.
