Mythic_One: there is a underwear version of Robert2's Male Body. His newest just updated last month too. Version 4 is nice!

 

I am 33 yr old and female, gamer, have been gaming a LONG time. I am a full geek, (read, not nerd!) and married a very handsome 33 yr old geek and we have 3 kids, all budding geeks.

 

My opinion is, as far as body mods go, we all love to look good. In and out of real life. Part of our egos I guess. Part of it is immersion. You really want to be distracted because you can see the join lines on body textures? Even my kids ask for the body mods, and i do give them the underwear versions, just cause they like how they look. Don't think it is sexist so much as ego there.

 

As far as armor mods, I think that is a choice thing. Sure, you get some guys (and girls lol) out there modding the heck out of outfits to make them sexy. Personal preference. I haven't found ONE you are forced to use. I don't think it is a reflection on the sex of the user or modder so much as the preference of game play style of the user.

 

As to catering to either sex, I don't see that either. I see a lot of those mods, yes, that cater to some sort of romantic or not so romantic game play style, and we see lots of those that don't. I think to generalize the game as catering to adolescent hormones is too much generalization. There is that sort of thing out there, but I think it is more a case of circumstance of the gamer using or creating those mods, and I personally end up sorry for some of them.

 

We hear about the "shut-ins" of Japan, and we all know that "loners" exist here. I don't think those kids or adults are the majority of gamers so much as a very visible and noticable game play style minority in the community. You have to understand that there will always be the kids taht aren't comfortable around others, don't know how to fit in, or just plain don't want to leave the house anymore. I think the Japanese understand who I am talking about more than most Americans, and are probably a lot more tolerant of it. I suspect my daughter may be a lot like the shut-ins we hear about over there, and she hates leaving the house for any reason.

 

When you have or are afraid of the current social life you live (or don't) I suspect there are as many ways with coping in a RPG game as there are people out there who cope. Tehre are always going to be those that immerse themselves in the game, those that use the NPCs as a "safe" way of acting out desires and wishes, and those that don't approve. There are also going to be those of that same category that are going to be anti-social and sexist.

 

I personally don't see the entire game nor the community that way, though. I have talked to and met some very nice people, both sexes, seen some GREAT mods out there, and had lots of ides. And I don't think the "sexist" sexy mods are made just by adolescents nor males. um, not to name names, but there is a very famous female modder who loves horses and I don't think she is younger than I am. She also preferrs "sexifying" males, and no one complains about her objectifying them. I don't think people really are objectifying either sex by making them sexy or good looking. More like enjoying the look, feel, experience, of the game, and wanting it better.

Take it easy people, this is just a game... :D you dont need to question every little tiny detail, you dont like it, you dont dload it and install it... and some women today use their physical charm to get what they want, the human race love beauty, a research shows that good looking people tend to get traffic fines 10% less, so we all love good looking things, humans, heck even the reflection on the mirror, so I dont think it is sexist or offending or degrading in any way... and as I said before, it is only a game, it is not something that has to be taken really seriously, if most women would find nudity or tight clothes offending, I guess we would never have a Lara Croft :D

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the body mods except that the females are ALWAYS either nude or are wairing a thong, I have five brothers and three of them are younger and two of them play oblivion and the other watches, we got several mods that need the body replacers, one was a nude version, the other I found the clothed version but the females are wairing a thong. That's not good for kids, especially those under sixteen. And I also think that the revealing aromr is wrong, it's impractical, would any sane woman go out in battle wairing a suit that looks like a bikini? No! Or at leased I wouldn't, I mean I'd rather wair a full set of armor that covers head to toe if I knew I was going to fight a monster like Mehrunes Dagon, wouldn't you? :wink:

Full armor is VERY heavy. Not for a tender being like a girl. If armor is necessary, why not stick to custom-made chain mail that could follow the silhouette of the female body, maybe with some cleavage and open in the front of stomach? :P

 

I'm mostly kidding, of course, but I do believe a full armor made of metal would impede the fighting capabilities of a female because females just aren't that strong. Leather or chain mail at most, any plate armor would be too much, for most males and all females.

 

Funny thing is female armors always reveal the most sensitive parts of the body, chest, stomach, thighs, while protecting the absolutely least important ones like groin, forehands, shoulders and such.

Please tell me it isn't just me. But, isn't it a little insulting the way every female character in the game is being turned into some kind of perverted sexy slave? Or "companion" as people call them.. I mean, I've seen thousands of mods with the sole purpose of giving them women or revealing armor, or even just making other characters sexy and appear in thongs.

 

It's a little insulting the way it seems that, while males are perfectly capable in war and wearing full-body armor, females immediately have to be a love interest with big boobs. Why can't people just play the game without unloading hormones on all the females within it? Female characters in oblivion seem to have their dignity stripped away. D:>

 

And how much protection can you REALLY get in a thong?!

Honestly! I don't think they made thongs back then!! Or fishnets! I mean, really, I don't mind those clothes in real life, but it's a video game, guys.. Not a porn mag. :/

 

If you feel that I'm being unreasonable, please tell me. I just want to know if anyone agrees. And please don't check me off as a chick on her period, 'cause the first one to say it gets stabbed in the mouth. In real life. And I'm not kidding. I'll come over there and bring Umbra with me, and I won't be wearing any boob-friendly armor, either. ;/

 

You are absolutely correct. You are being reasonable. I think it's disgusting and must be abolished, but considering the fact that Oblivion is an "M" game, I doubt the mods or the people really care. Truthfully, they are absolutely pointless. I like companion mods, but not when they look like a bunch of whores. If perverts want porn, go watch it somewheres else. Don't make it in our video-game. It's a royal pain in the behind to find weapons, armors, and companions because half of them are sick. You people should rethink your lives a bit. Seriously. What would your mothers or fathers or brothers or sisters think of you? What do you think we sane people think of you? What would the guy upstairs think of you? What would I think of you? I think you see my point. I don't agree with nude body mods either, and I agree that armor should be practical, but I don't find "sexy" mods offensive as you seem to do o_O . There's no need to get all vindicative on those people who do use those mods, as they are just trying to improve the aesthetic appeal of the game. Mabye not a healthy choice mentally, particularly if you, repeatedly, spend extended periods gawking at your character, or npcs. Those people probably should see someone about that. Good point about the social reprocussions though.

Sure, people back themselves up by saying "If you don't like it, don't download it" and "They just look pretty", but we (including those people) all know that you guys just get those mods for the large breasts. I'm a guy, but I'm a modest guy who likes modest and intelligent women, and I always was and always will be above the need for porn or anything sexually oriented. I don't need fantasies of women to come true. I don't need to watch stupid people get it on with each other so I could start touching myself in an inappropriate way. If you think the female body is pretty, why don't you admire a REAL girl, in an appropriate fashion? Can't you just look at them, instead of spamming a bunch of perverted clothing in the Weapons/Armor section, so that I could find some cool equipment easier? Can't you go ONE DAY without looking at a virtual private-part and getting the urge to touch yourself? For those of you who say you can but really can't, I feel bad for you. Firstly, I highly doubt many people get off on those mods. Secondly, the majority of people I know, or have seen on this site don't favor or, in some cases, don't even like those DD's on the body mods. I don't. And why the hell do you think that just because someone does download those mods that they have an uncontrollable urge to gratify themselves? Your just ranting and, at best, making an #ss of yourself.

I don't think everyone does, but then again, why would they download them in the first place? If you have a problem with the way the vanilla oblivion women look, there is a mod that changes it that I have. It makes the women look more appealing and not old-looking. The people who say they want realistic player characters are contradicting themselves because not all women have enormous breasts, and especially not as big as those that come with the mod.
