TrooperScooperMKII
I change my mind too much. Anyway, back to square one. Sort of. http://imageshack.us/a/img194/9135/blehg.pnghttp://imageshack.us/a/img194/9135/blehg.png Haven't touched the GECK in a while... To-do list: models:exterior of palaceinterior of palace (including furniture)"Big Brother" blimpCruise Liner, e.g. "ritzy rivet city"at least a battleship, maybe a carrier or sub or something. lots of ships and ship-stuff for sure.beach and tourist paraphernalia, not much work probably"military" vehicles e.g. tanks (in NV and/or the forums IIRC), maybe other stuffPlenty of other buildings, the library, capitol, and court house, plus mansions/churches near the palace all stand out in Google Earth.plant stuff. like lots of plants, plenty of trees. Some at least are here. Creature-wiseGiant spiders. No snakes, Hawaii doesn't have them (although... maybe a unique "mutated pet" python?)tropical birds?maybe- sharks, and/or other fish things. And lots of GECK work. New plotline (#5000 or whatever) The basic idea was that some rich big-wigs got together and used GECK terraforming etc. to build their own, isolated and safe tropical paradise far away from everyone and everything else. They specifically planned to survive Nuclear Armageddon via chemical stuff. As to what might happen:I'm thinking that they use filter pylons or something to surround the islands (clear the waters) and lots of terraforming (and even a mild FEV strain?) to keep the land rad-proof. Say eitehr the GECKs they had were insufficient for long-term purification, or they lost some from age or an eruption or so, and they either doped some of the land with "mild" FEV (maybe?) chems or over-timed the GECKs. Long story short, either by accident or design they dose swathes of the jungles with FEV-doped GECK stuff, basically using them as "rad-sinks" and/or scrubbers, the cost being an explosion of super-flora & fauna, like Vault 22 and the Oasis over a huge area; so they would constantly be "trimming" the jungle, a literal war of man v.s wild. Despite any resources (or perhaps because of them) they're heavily focused on fighting the pristine but horrid jungles; most of the imperialism then being "tribute" of slaves and scrap (recycling can only do so much) in exchange for the odd tech support or such. It would be a much more interesting (and dangerous) set-up than a simple "post-war hold-out." Of course I might (will?) end up changing this later. Plenty of other jungles out there. :P I dunno, but at least I can finish some blasted models.
TrooperScooperMKII
So, it turns out that Hawaiian Centipedes are monsters. As are the cockroaches. :ohdear:Two things. One: I'm not going to be the one to create those things. 2. I'll hate coming up on them if/when I play the mod myself. 3. I will be utterly sadistic in the jungle spawns. The caves will be horrid.

TrooperScooperMKII
Hiatus....so....The more I think the more I feel like tying in some of the Mars project lore and stuff. COnsidering both the sheer cost and complexity of all the tech, and the emphasis on post-apocalypse and terraforming, it makes sense to add it into (or even use as a cover up of sorts) a project for a Mars colony. A living vault if you will; or put another way: if you can take a blank check and the secrecy and legal smokescreens of the FO US government to design some of the most remote and fertile islands into self-sufficient colonies capable of surviving the indirect effects of nuclear holocaust, then you can probably build a terraforming colony on Mars. Maybe. All the vaults were supposedly intended to test social conditions vis a vis space colonists, so this one could be for testing the colony/above-ground aspects of it all. In addition to simplifying/broadening lore and technology (not to mention the jungle stuff planned for Mars) it also allows some extra alien stuff (very subtle- "advanced force field of dubious origin" "strange glowing rocks" or "unprecedented materials science advances" as the extent of what you get/see) to work its way in as easter eggs of sorts. And of course it gives a very, very, awesome use for Diamond Head Crater. The thing is begging to be a massive Raven Rock or domed-off bunker complex. Wheels within wheels within wheels. Anyway. What I need is someone to plan the darned thing; as in someone who can pin down the concepts into a tangible city and interiors even a map at this point would be a step up. Whenever I try to nail something down I just end up staring at Google earth or the GECK for 20 minutes. SO... anyone visually/spatially designed, and up for some post-apocalypse urban engineering? Location list: That island ("sand Island") in the middle is going to be a "Venice 2.0" or Hawaiian Strip if you will; I also think putting the Andrea Doria type Rivet City near/next to there is a good bet. The palace, the capitol building, and a few other things e.g. mansions, being in effect the center of the city. What's left of it, anyway. There's also a nifty lighthouse just south; and there's airbases, beaches, city stuff, etc. that could be put to varying uses. I'd also like some sort of international presence, either as expatriates (scientists from Germany at the least, have to have the Werhner Von Braun ex-nazis in the space agency; Italy is also a must, given that IIRC there was talk of a game in "pre war anarchic northern Italy" and we need the Venice, and Mafia dons there somehow). This giving some flavor to the otherwise bland mix of post-war cyberpunk cityscape. Businesses, tourists, Tenpenny Tower type suites, Nellis fields, even Pitt-style industries, anything really, so long as it's "civilized" as in relatively clean and presumptuous, pretensions towards pre-war splendor. ("I shall not tolerate slums near my beaches, send them away).Definitely a lot of espionage or corporate hit-man type scenarios to set up; as well as a very imperialist mentality. http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/6552/placep.jpg That quadrant, around the purple buildings, extending roughly to the triangle channelsis the "civilized" part, and carefully walled off from the rest of the island; the right area (the peninsula of sorts formed between Pearl harbor, the Air strip "sandal") beng sort of a Pitt/Freeside slums and industrial "poor parts", and the left, just beyond the black-outlined tourist city district, and the "dimple" (Diamond head) are open to question; I'm thinking a mix of technology (the labs) tourism and the frontier with the wild (so lots of enemies) as being the border between man and wild.Inland is where things get really interesting. Just north of that strip of stuff connecting Diamond Head to the city is 50s suburbia gone green and overgrown with fetid FEV Rad-sink jungles; an ironic inversion of the real life "we're destroying Nature's Amazon C02 scrubbers" problem. Plus it would be a very potent contrast with the city, and jab at both suburbia, consumerism, and hippie/environmentalist/neo-luddite counter-culture all at the same time. Naturally there will be tribals, and at least one survivalist settlement. Possibly two or more. Who knows. In any event the suburb/tourist area from Diamond Head to the city quadrant is very fast and loose; go wild, so to speak. I have a lot of trouble picturing anything in particular, though I think it would be both the most interesting and the relatively easiest (from a resource standpoint) to start with. As to other specific things, there's genetic research, terraforming, cybernetics, robotics, AIs, and Orwellian kill-sat spy blimps.Basically the inner city should look something like this. http://i54.tinypic.com/2sb299i.jpg Only perhaps a bit "prettier" on the inside (some parts, anyway, not all) and a lot worse (and greener) on the outside. Like if Poison Ivy had free reign for 200+ years. Edited March 27, 2013 by TrooperScooperMKII
devinpatterson
INteresting idea (mars tie-in) Trooper, lots of possibilities :)I'm sneaking an email at work so I can't even begin to comment on the wealth of detail you have above, other than to say it very, very intersting. Hopefully get a little free time this evening to help pitch in
TrooperScooperMKII
Cool, thanks.I was thinking in particular to have the security officer (neo-McCarthy) show up, either as a promising recruit or as the clone of another officer who sweettalks a lead environmentalist-minded scientist to "step in line" after he learns that the radioactive material "accident" he's testing his latest toys on wasn't accidental. The parallels between the domes and the outer wastes did resonate with the way I was heading, though. :smile:I'm currently working on a mortar for one of "SomeGuy2000" mods... can't remember off the top of my head what it was called, it's about a NCR mercenary drive to help defend an outpost against overwhelming Legion hordes. Or "defend" it, like a proper mercenary. :P Also have a bit more on the palace (the window part, started the fence) hoping that the rough exterior sans stairs/roof should be done soon. The interior seems relatively straightforward; I feel like getting the rough models of the "royal square" thing done, as it really anchors where the city begins; hence working on the jungle part would be better place to begin, as the worldspace could just be divided/end by a BFwall like the above. TrooperScooperMKII
Moar http://imageshack.us/a/img835/4531/palacefence.png http://imageshack.us/a/img827/6233/palacesortof.png I'm really wondering where to go with this... the GECK and I don't get along well. For that matter, Wings and I don't get along too well ;D I'm not really a spatially inclined individual, if that makes sense... this off the rails "sandbox" stuff is killing me.Where to start? As in, what to do first? I feel like an overgrown suburb district or office building could be good, relatively simple, and ity would be something to anchor the flat worldspace expanse and even share as a beta of sorts... I think there are some tropical trees on Nexus. List of models to be done:Palace exterior (WIP)Palace interior (three floors, including one basement)Palace barracks/rotunda/outer fence and gateCapitol building, supreme court building, a mansion or two perhaps- all near the royal palaceold stone lighthouse (Aloha Tower)taller office buildings, or hotels; interiors are probably fine with vanilla or retextured assets "Andrea Doria" cruise shipother ships- Coast Guard Cutter? Spy Blimps- I have basic football WIPS :P shouldn't be too hard to elaborate on. Giant spiders, giant centipedes- custom meshes and rigging....plenty of plants Retextured (or not) ants and crows, tropical birds and bugs and as far as armor goes, some sort of "royal guard" Power Armor, the only thing I can find is this http://www.aloha-hawaii.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/kamehameha.jpg as something over the armor.. I dunno. Don't have much to go on.

Try to do everything possible with vanilla or Nexus assets. I know that's like a duhhh comment, but I'm stressing it because even a small amount of custom content can be a huge hit in terms of manpower/time. Start with the section that requires the smallest amount of custom content so you can A. release a demo/tease and gather some more developers and B. to reduce the soul rending frustration that you will live and breath while using the geck....even with just vanilla content. Random thoughts, re-textures will be easiest, through me some ideas of what your looking for in your bugs, animals & armor. Adding a 2nd set of legs rigged to another parallel pair bones *shouldn't* be an impossible task for me, thus giving you a mutant spider. Has Ermeso allowed any of his projects to be used by other mod authors yet? Because flying a air ship would be awesome. I can change the appearance of plants by throwing various textures on the little alpha planes they have. It's not a big poly, and looks good. Did it with some of the sunset stuff. Easy to get PD textures too. OK gotta jet, sorry for the burst of incoherent and unstructured ramblings.....

Tell me about it. One model taking months... then the GECK....Thinking about starting with an office/hotel, or suburb jungle. Actually "urban jungle" would be a good place. Mostly interiors.I think there's a New York WIP, not sure how far off the ground it got but it'd be awesome if they'd be willing to share skyscrapers. Random thoughts, re-textures will be easiest, through me some ideas of what your looking for in your bugs, animals & armor. Adding a 2nd set of legs rigged to another parallel pair bones *shouldn't* be an impossible task for me, thus giving you a mutant spider.Hmm... Lengthening an ant mesh might work for the centipede... though I kind of think it should be more than an overgrown ant... I'm kind of thinking that they should be mini-boss battles or something, I mean they're tanks in RL, post-FEV science they'd be terrifying even to an Enclave squad. Is it possible to get a single creature to have multiple attacks/targets? As in each segment could swipe at something.Actually, maybe have it "spliced with worm DNA" so each segment is its own critter, so it could divide into two weaker ones by blasting a segment apart... :ohdear: As to the spider, I can't remember, but do the ants rear up and swipe at you? Or could different attack animations be played? Not too big of a deal, more an aesthetic thing. Has Ermeso allowed any of his projects to be used by other mod authors yet? Not sure, definitely would be interested in getting in touch with him though.I can change the appearance of plants by throwing various textures on the little alpha planes they have. TrooperScooperMKII
Found a Fallout 3 mod that adds a bunch of palm trees to the Capital Wasteland. It's not a resource and I'd need permission, but it might work.
