Fallout: Hawaii?

Well, Spongebob does have insanely tropical/retro music. Besides, some of the music sounds like it could have been in Pulp Fiction.

Hence the "genius" part.

I think I'll have to take down the O'ahu map for the big Isle one I'm starting. It's too big, and the Big Isle is more feasible for the early stages.

Trees: just what are the limits/difficulties in modeling/animating them? What about ferns/low lying plants for the player to wade through?

Generally, how do you animate collisions/reactive stuff to begin with?

Baduk's rope resource would definitely be a good base for a vine model.

Ka Lae, the southernmost point in the US.

Wiki mentions that strong currents & winds make it a popular fishing spot, and cause a lot of debris to accumulate there... and this.

The strong winds cause some trees to become almost horizontal with their branches all growing in the same direction near the ground.

o_O

There's currently a wind farm and a NOAA weather station on the point.

Wiki also says that Nasa considered it as a potential site for Manned rocket flights, ultimately rejecting b/c it was too remote. Private launch operations also considered it, rejected because of high costs and local opposition; neither of which would stop insanely wealthy Europeans...

I definitely see it being heavily developed for satellite launches.

I don't think you can have cutable vines and such, unfortunately.

What type of food could you have wildly growing in the jungle? Pineapples perhaps. Maybe they're incredibly valuable back in the Mojave.

Yeah, I thought so.

Static/movable vines might be a possibility.

As for food, Sugar Cane, Pineapples, Guava, Passionfruit, etc. are/were all grown in Hhawaii. Coffee, rice, corn and macadamia nuts as well; wiki mentions "diversified agriculture" as a growing economy, with tropical and temperate vegetables included. Solar and wind power would obviously find extensive use...

Ranches, farms, fisheries, observatories, and a potential launch facility, in the most remote tropical islands in the world.

Perfect for a secure enclave of paranoid moneybags.

Anyway, Kauai, Maui and Hawaii seem to be the most fertile.

Maybe a REPCONN facility there? Perhaps when the Europeans took control, the bought out the REPCONN facility and converted it into one of the anti-missile launch areas.

That makes more sense, actually. It could also have some of the GECK/terraforming stuff that kept the worst of the rads/chems off the islands.

+windfarm/solar panels, maybe a broadcast station or two, and a small barracks garrison to man it pre-war. Post war, they would only need a maintenance staff, so there could be a few survivors there. I can see it being a small colonysettlement/holdout mutants/tribals, given that it would be fenced off, have guns/ammo/supplies, and defense turrets of some kind.

They could be trying to send an emergency message to Oahu, but the english PM is blocking the signal...

Speaking of which, the double symbolism of the State Capitol and the adjacent Iolani Palace make it the natural choice for the English Colonial Government. Plus it's in the center of the city & their territories. The "King" would be in the palace- he's mostly a a willing figurehead, competent and charismatic enough to act the leader, but he's really just the front for the PM. The player (and anyone else) would likely have to meet the King before the PM; what are they going to say, "I'm sorry, your majesty, but I need to speak with the PM in the building next to your palace?" Even if the visitor was astute/knowledgeable enough to know/suspect the PM's power, they can't exactly bash the king for granting them an audience in the palace.

Buildings, buildings, buildings. If only we could get the buildings...

State Art Museum, right across the street from Iolani Palace and the Capitol (told you the street is awesome!)

Maybe the British Leader's Great Grandfather was friends with Mr. House, and you can tell him that you killed/worked with House.

That's nifty, and it would make sense, given the Repconn connection & House's determination to "sow the seeds" of revival and preserve the "best" scraps of human civilization...

If you killed house, I suppose the PM would probably brush it off

"Well, such a tragedy. However, I supposed an idealistic young person such as yourself had his reasons. I never knew the man anyways."

Or if you sided with House

"Ah, so you decided to aid him. Well, you'll be doing your part in rebuilding society. Keep along this path, and I guarantee the world will rebuild itself shortly."
