Sounds good so far. Wish I could help out. Hopefully I can start practicing in the GECK once I have my own Computer again.

What I need the most is info. Info, and a bunch of plant models. If you could collect a bunch of images/resources for local plants, animals, scenery, etc and then send them to Allan (if he's willing/able) then maybe we can start filling up the island once it's completed. I can do basic GIMP texturing- I'm going to try my hand at making a "lava" water set for the islands once the basic map is working- but I can't model or animate anything...

Speaking of which, tutorials/tips on editing water textures would be helpful, as well. Basically if you (or anyone else) can give me some advice/pointers wrt any problems that appear, then I can probably hammer out a crude texture pack given enough time.

In the meantime, I'm outlining the basic island shape in GIMP; after converting a greyscale BMP to a world map via a command prompt tool I found, I'll have a base map to work with.. hopefully.

The tool is called TESAnnwyn. I have the documentation with it, but it's all theoretical until I try it in game.

I'll start looking. I'm not very good with plants, should I just Google a whole bunch of pictures of the Hawaiian wilderness?

Google, Wiki, whatever, as long as it's Hawaii. I'd throw in a few individual tree images, if possible- try searching for "Hawaii flora" or search Wiki for a list. Try to find the scientific name for the species- it will be in latin, often italicized, always in a box beneath the image, i.e. where the birth/death dates would be for a bio page. Wiki always has the species name and an image, assuming it isn't completely obscure.

I did a blank test with a literally black-and-white BMP- it worked fine in the GECK- loading the worldspace showed the southwestern corner of the Hawaii map.

I'm going to play with the offset settings, but it works!

Glad to here that. Once the plants get made, the world will start filling up.

I think something you can do to the map is start making a corn field. You can use the Maize Texture and modify the name/stats.
