TrooperScooperMKII
Is the area colored yet, or is it just a grey void at the moment? It's a grey flat void with a completely flat plateau shaped like Hawaii. I finished the GIMP outline of Hawaii yesterday. I layered a blank transparent layer over a topographic map of the isle, traced the outline and then filled it in with the fill tool, converting the upper black-and-white island layer into a single-layer BMP and then used the command prompt TESAnnywn to convert it into an esp.Sounds harder than it is, really. Easier than the GECK, and command prompt/GIMP is useful in jsut about anything modwise... I learned GIMP in order to make a 2-d heightmap for Medieval II,.Now that I know that it works, I'm going to add the various heights in the original layered image, then convert it again. The map goes in increments of 250 meters, up to 4250, and has roads, towns, trails, volcano peaks, etc all labeled.Original Image:http://www.geog.ucsb.edu/img/news/2011/2000px-Hawaii_Island_topographic_map-en-loihi.svg.png
AveTruetoCaesar
Can't wait to see some pictures soon. Â Here's an ammo idea I got. Have lava as a item that you can get from the mutants volcano base, and crafting it together with bullets creates Lava Rounds covered bullets, which can melt through armor! THe bullets would melt (or be near melting) if they had lava in them, and the gun would be just as hot. :teehee: That said, lava would be a great natural defense if you could control it. IE pits of doom and/or geysers that melt anyone who gets too close. They might even channel it in a "water cannon" defense for their base. Apparently, Kilauaea is one of one of only a handfule of real lifelava lakes. AveTruetoCaesar
How would you code Lava affects in? Would it be possible to make it that when you walk in, your set on fire? If it's impossible, how about just making it give off incredibly high amounts of rads.

PlaceableWater under world objects seems to control texture/visual variants, i.e. oasis water and clean water, but the waterType panel sets the actual game mechanics- including spell types such as "flamer burn effect."So yes, lava water will set you on fire, and ignite flammable gas/gas bombs as well. And it can deal direct damage as well.
AveTruetoCaesar
Sweet! Maybe you could make a Ghoul variant that lives around Kilauaea? They could throw fire at you, and get healed by fire (trying to kill them with Flamers, Incinerators and incendiary rounds would be useless!). You could probably reuse the Overseer Ghoul model for them.

You could probably reuse the Overseer Ghoul model for them.It gets better. The Game Effects>Actor Effects lists all the "spells" which is everything from clothing stat bonuses/penalties to knockdown/incinerator effects and the unique effects of the Nellis artillery and the ARCHIMEDES. By using multiple water types, we could have "light" lava, "medium" lava, and "heavy" lava effects, with the damage in the last two being fatal to just about anyone, possibly even instant death. The damage effect can also independently be applied in the water type box- it's an unused (in vanilla) option that has the water do constant (set rate) damage whenever the player is in contact with it, just like the rad effects. It even lets you set the color in the GECK, along with "glow" luminosity and the like.. IIRC there was even a fog/transparency option, so the "lava" wouldn't be as clear as water. Basically only the textures need to be edited, and even then it would largely be a refinement.
AveTruetoCaesar
That's great, dude. The maps going to look great! Also, should I send my Plan posts to Alan?
TrooperScooperMKII
That's great, dude. The maps going to look great! Also, should I send my Plan posts to Alan?Sure. The map itself is just a 2-D BMP image, and will be for a while... it's not difficult, just tedious. I'm working from the outside in, tracing the various levels and filling them in. After I reach the center (I'm working on the tan level in the above image) then I'll blend it together to blend/blur the various patches to make it transition smoothly. Else I'll have a lot of jagged/glitchy terrain to fix in GECK.It should be done by Sunday at the latest, possibly earlier than that depending on time constraints. It might not be pretty, but the general shape should be good enough to start editing in GECK form.
