The Power of the Atom, no limits

I've always been fairly disappointed with your options in The Power of the Atom. It's very one or the other, and you only get one house.

With modding, however, why only do what the vanilla game lets you do? So, I've been looking, but I doubt I'll find exactly what I'm looking for, so I'll just outline it...here's what I want to do:

1. Meet Mr. Burke and Black Widow him into paying me 1000 caps instead of 500.

2. Sneaky kill Burke and take the 1000 caps off his body.

3. Somehow gain access to the Tenpenny Suite (reward from Tenpenny for killing Roy Phillips, pickpocketing the key off him?)

4. Disarm the bomb and get 500 caps and the Megaton house.

Seems fairly simple, but specific. Can anyone help me out, maybe give me some advice if I can do this myself?

  1. You'll want to edit the dialog associated with Mr. Burke. Open his NPC record in GECK, and click on the Dialog button. Once the new window loads, just look for the option where he offers you caps. You'll need to find a tutorial on how to add dialog to NPCs, the Nexus wiki or the GECK wiki should have one.
  2. This would be handled in either Mr. Burke's script, or a quest script monitoring him (most likely his script). Just do a check for GetDead and the actor who killed him (or just a GetDead check). Alternatively, you could just stick the 1000 caps into his inventory, though then it'd still be there after the dialog option unless you remove it from him in the dialog script.
  3. This one is slightly trickier, as it would requires several scripts to detect events and act accordingly. You could put the key somewhere in Tenpenny's rooms and just have it be stolen. Make sure, if you do that, that you advance the room quest to allow decorations to be bought, and to prevent NPCs from considering you stealing or trespassing.
  4. Doesn't the 500 cap reward require a speech check already? Be pretty easy to remove the check though, or make it easier, otherwise, don't see why this is an issue, as it happens anyway.

Hope that helps some, at least outlining how to go about doing what you wanted to do.

Oh, I wasn't implying that I wanted to do any modding for things like the speech options. I was just letting you know my thought process there.

The only real modding I think that you would need to do here would be the caps on Burke's corpse, and getting the Tenpenny Suite while still disabling the bomb.

Oh wait. I forgot an important part to this, didn't I?

I want to kill Burke at Tenpenny Tower. That means I need to rig the bomb with the fusion pulse charge first. But once you do that, you can't disarm the bomb...

So, I first need to know if it will even be possible to mod the bomb so that I can disarm it even after arming it.

Is there a point where I'll be asked to stop bumping this?

I don't think any of the basic GECK tutorials have anything to do with this. They all seem to be for building something entirely new. I've tried searching for "megaton, bomb, disarm, fusion" etc. in this forum...I have no idea what to do.

If someone were to just let me know that it isn't actually possible, I'd be grateful. Not getting any kind of reply is maddening.

I'm sorry, I've been working on a reply, just got distracted, then school work needed doing, then computer issues, and it's on the other computer. I've been working on a detailed description of approximately how you would do it, it just needs finishing, and I got tired of looking at scripts after a while.

Maybe have it up in another day or two.

  • 4 weeks later...

It's probably silly to bring this up again, because it honestly feels like OCD, but I realize there are other ways to accomplish my ultimate goal of getting your reward money from Burke and still disarm the bomb, and eventually getting the Tenpenny Suite as well.

The suite is a simple matter, I think. I can just put a key somewhere (I'll probably put it on Tenpenny since I'll kill him at some point). I just want to make sure that there aren't any problems with gaining access to the suite in this manner. Also, will I be able to buy items from Lydia Montenegro?

As for Burke, I might just put the money in his house, and have him give me the key when I seduce him with Black Widow or something. I just need to know how to put items in a specific container in the game...

I also haven't really done any modding, so if someone could tell me how I save the plug in and how it goes in your load order, I'd be thankful.

Yeah, I'm weird. I just want to manipulate everybody in these games though.
