MasterFroglicker
An idea I had when I got tired of seeing so many improvised barricades and fortifications in game but unable to make any yourself. Can someone make a mod that allows the player to craft and place fortifications? such as sand bags, furniture barricades, wooden/metal walls? The idea is to give some level of control for setting up defenses or ambushes anywhere thats necessary, but can also probably used to supplement base/settlement building It'd work something like: Turn tanned hides into leather swatches (sheets?patches?)Combine leather and lead to make varying sand bag walls (lead can be replaced with BBs. or even nothing in order to represent nearby dirt/debris)Sand bag walls would have low (can crouch and still aimed-fire over) and tall (for standing aimed-fire or crouched cover) varieties, of short and maybe long length Wooden/metal walls and furniture barricades would probably require scrap metal unless someone wants to add a Junk/Wood/Furniture/Debris item and a way to scavenge for themBarricades would probably have a very tall version (to block off passage ways) and a regular version w/ varying heights (lockers for tall cover, tables/dressers for low cover, similar to Wasteland Defense) The defenses could be crafted at any campfire or workbench (which would make veronica and portable campfire mods ever more useful), or... perhaps have the mod place an item in the players inventory to create the items through a menu-based system (to help simulate improvising a defense on the spot i.e you don't need a work bench to flip a table over or shovel dirt into a bag The defenses would be destructable, but still have relatively high hp (maybe 500 or 750)All deployables would have some noticable weight (maybe 5 or 10 or more) to deter the player from carrying a fortress in his/her pocket everywhere. All deployables would also be able to breakdown into most of their components to reduce weight and help simulate the improvisation of the defense. The more damaged it is, the less components is returned to the player. Placement can work 1 of 3 ways: Usable aid item that spawns deployable directly in front of player (easiest but harder to fine-tune placement)Grabbable misc item that acts as a visual placeholder (The way Antistar did it for his Portable Campsite mod. It may be a bit clunky due to the thinner shape of walls/sandbags)Precisely manipulated visual placeholder that follows crosshair (The way Wasteland Defense and I think RTS handles placeable objects). I am well aware that JNF's Portable Camping Equipment mod has portable sandbags, but they're too tall to crouch and aimed-fire over, and it only gives 3, so if they get lost they're lost forever unless you use console commands. Placement is also extremely awkward and clunky since it uses books as placeholders rather than the item itself (too often I would get stuck INSIDE the sandbags because I was unable to see which way the placeholder was facing). Plus, having an overpowered tent mod can really break immersion for some.I am also aware that Elderwind's Wasteland Defense has placeable walls and barricades, and I love the way you place them, but those can only be placed near the player's base I would do this myself but my modding skills are only moderate and this would probably require both nifskope and the GECK renderer, both of which do not work properly for me If anyone wants to take this idea on, please let me know so that I can track it, try it, endorse it, and then worship you for your help Thanks in advance Edited September 9, 2011 by MasterFroglicker
