amycus
HiI'm currently trying to port Meredith's sword from DA2 to DA:O (in case you havn't read this http://www.dragonagenexus.com/news/article.php?id=112 , Bioware has allowed porting between the Dragon age games), and would like to add a red glowing effect in the toolset. Problem is, I can't figure out how to do it. I know that it should somehow be possible, since it can be done with the winterforge mod, but I would prefer it if it could look the part from the start. Appreciate any help
sendo75
I messed around with DA2 emissive textures some time back and I believe it is done similarly in DAO, never tried DAO modding/toolset so I can only give a general direction. The emissive texture layer is defined in the MAO file, an additional entry among the normal/specular/diffuse maps. The emissive DDS is created with the usual texture editing program with the usual setting, black background with glowing portions that corresponds to the diffuse map. The emissive DDS is named with XYZ_e.DDS in DA2, it could be similar or XYZ_g.DDS in DAO. And this filename should be defined in MAO emissive mask entry. For weapons it should be straightforward, the default semantic setting should support emissive maps. An example that might help:<Texture Name="mml_tEmissiveMask" ResName="xyz_0e.dds"></Texture> This material editor might be used, not tried it but be worth a look. http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/Material_editor Edit: As pointed out by Ish below, seems likely that you are referring to glowing vfx effects which are animated as opposed to the static glowing effects I assumed. Ah well! Edited September 11, 2011 by sendo75
ishmaeltheforsaken
I don't think OP is talking about a glowmap. He's asking about enchantment VFX. My best guess is that it's very similar between games, but I don't know any specific information.
amycus
Yeah, I actually already have an emissive mask that also came from DA2. But without the VFX it looks a bit weird in my opinion.EDIT: now when I searched for "VFX"s specifically I found a bit more information on how to use them in Dragon age. Will hopefully find something there...2nd EDIT: Nope, it was just information on how to create new, custom VFX.
