Reinstalling Oblivion

We stopped playing Oblivion in 2009 due to computer issues, and recently discovered our game disks in a box underneath our desk. We have a new computer and just installed Oblivion. We remember when we used to play we had the game looking pretty darn nice and had an upwards of 30 mods installed. We are looking for advice on some mods to get as we are pretty much clueless (two years of not doing anything related to Oblivion or game modding is better than brain-washing)... We want the game to run as good as possible, and for it to look good too.

 

What we believe we should get:

Unofficial Oblivion Patch (UOP)

Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch (USIP

Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM)

Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE)

Common Oblivion (COBL)

 

Now, onto the mods we need help with:

Male body mod -- what is the best? Robert's?

Female body mod -- same as above? HGEC?

(Note: We would prefer models with undergarments... We have small children running around. But, if the "best" is naked so be it.)

Additional weapons -- weapons to flesh out the game a bit, no "super weapons" or the ilk.

Additional armor -- more armor and female versions of the armor in the game which doesn't have female versions (I remember steel armor did not?)

Additional hair models -- We want ones (both genders) that don't clip through the back of the person (We remember that being an issue with some?) and ones that look good!

Environmental mods -- to make the game look as good as possible! Performance isn't an issue hardware wise...

 

 

We are really trying to maintain the integrity of the game, basically... we do not want to install all those mods which try to change the game - we want to maintain the games initial design philosophy. But just make it look better.

Well, ok. I will try to answer some of your questions, but as I don't use any body replacers myself, I can't say if hgec is better than babs, etc. I think that is all up to personal preference. I like the skeleton model from Coronerra's Compatibility Skeleton. It will support most animated wings and allows you to use armors you wouldn't normally with the vanilla body type. That is just my two cents.

 

Definitely get the unofficial official patches, obmm and the latest obse. Cobl is a must too. I personally use Wrye Bash more, but omod format is very nice too. If you use Wrye Bash, you can get the Better Oblivion Sorting Software, or boss. This will help you to sort your load order and find incompatible mods.

 

Weapons and Armors: I would recommend all the following mods. I have used all these and endorsed the files where I can.

 

Armamentarium - The largest and most complete armor set. It adds variety and color to all inhabitants wearing armor.

Bob's Armory - Another Leveled List adder. It is almost as large as the arma set mentioned above. Fully compatible.

Nicoroshi's Creations - Some great weapons. There are many cool bows, swords and armors.

Armory of the Silver Dragon - Adds some cool stuff for sale in the IC market.

 

I don't think I've heard of a better or larger cosmetic mod than the Comprehensive Cosmetic Compilation, but the file simply named Cosmetic Compilation should be enough for most.

 

Again, I think the consesus would be Quarl's Texture Packs. Just pick the largest image sizes. There is also the Oblivion Graphics Extender, Unique Landscapes and several weather mods. Get Better Cities by bannanasplit.

 

As for the best quests, Top Oblivion Quests Links, or toql by Dev Akim is the best. The post is a few years old, but has been updated and is a good place to start. You should also check out stuff like Underdark, Elswere and the dune project.

 

I would reccomend starting with the search engine, you make the results display in order ascending or descending, according to downloads/endorsements/file size. You can browse the categories the same way.

Im also not a friend of overmodding the system, but there are so much things to do.

 

If hardware isn't the problem try this, because not your PC is the problem, but the oblivion game, cause it is a little bit older than your PC and bananasplits Better Citys will cause problems because its too big. Unique Landscapesare great and nearly a musthave

 

If you want the same game harder to play Oblivion War Cry - New Dimension is a very good choice.

Thanks guys! All that is left to download are CCC and QTP. Thanks for the help! Oblivion is already looking better. For bodies we opted for HGEC (underwear, normal) and Robert's (underwear3, average).
