Map mod

I'm pretty sure nothing like this exists here. I tried searching for it and checked up to five pages. Anyway, what I'm looking for is actually fairly simple to do except I don't have the first clue how to do it myself. So for all I know it might be completely impossible.

Let's take any random city. Doesn't matter which one. At the beginning of the game, when you check the local map it is black. You have to explore it yourself in order to reveal the city. Now, what I want to have is a way to 'buy' a map that will automatically reveal the entire city.

(Possibly with a few secret passageways although that is entirely optional.)

I'm only referring to the local cities though. Nothing more. Maybe the NPC'S could be the beggars since they should pretty much know their cities out of their head.

So.... Is it possible to do or not? I mean I gave this topic plenty of time to be explored but either you all find this just a stupid idea or even the modders don't know how to do it IF it is even possible.

That said, sorry about the double post but I just wanted to hear the answer. However it is reached I don't really care. Be it through a quest or something else just that it gets it done.

There are no functions in vanilla or OBSE scripting to change this on the terms you'd like. At least of which I'm aware of.

However, there is the console command TFOW (ToggleFogOfWar), but that applies to all and everything.

Perhaps someone can create some scripts that are associated with a map that look at where you are, and toggle FOW depending on if you are inside a city you own a map for. This would require constant checking or at least frequent checking to see what cell you are located in, but I think it could be accomplished this way.

Oblivion does not really support this mod idea, so there have been very few people commenting on the topic thread. It sounds like it might be a large amount of work for a reward that many people would view as being small.

So maybe you could find someone to do the research and development to figure out how to make a template script. Then you could learn how to script enough to do all the tedious work to apply the script to all the numerous areas of the game that it would need to apply to. That part would be more like repetitive secretary work than clever software engineer work. You might be able to do the research and development piecemeal by asking good questions on the forums until someone writes you a script or gives you enough ideas that you can patch together a working script.
